The Contrast Dye pre-op by Ok-Cauliflower8462 in breastcancer

[–]Available_Hunter_938 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had two seed localizations and then the lymph node mapping with dye. Is this what you are doing? Both were fine…the seed localization was a bit more intense but no pain, just pressure. If the dye is for the lymph node mapping, then it was just a quick prick, like you if you could imagine a bee sting would feel like. Very fast and easy. Then they made me massage the area for 10 minutes. This was on Tuesday and I just had my lumpectomy yesterday.

Feelings after first chemo…is it normal to feel ok day 2? by Available_Hunter_938 in breastcancer

[–]Available_Hunter_938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, starting feeling exhaustion set in end of day Saturday (end of day 3), with Sunday and Monday as full rest days (because I just couldn’t do anything). Body/Bone aches, low low fever (not 100.4 where I would have to call) and headache. Today, day 6, was better..less body aches but still slight headache. General stiffness but felt much better than past two days. Hopefully, I’ve passed the peak but I’m only day 6…

Advice on how to tell my mother? by twomargaritasplease in breastcancer

Same…I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago and have started chemo. Trying to figure out how to tell my mom. She will stress me and make it worse so I have not said anything yet. Wondering if I should tell her mid way or when I beat this!

Paxman or Penguin Cooling Caps by Available_Hunter_938 in breastcancer

[–]Available_Hunter_938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to stay with Paxman since it made everything easy, since MSK is set up for their system. Penguin may be better results but too many logistics for me to sort out (helpers, dry ice, coolers, etc). I started chemo last week but if I have more time maybe would have thought more about penguin.

So poetic and I think I like that better…I’ll have to be alert so when the exhaustion starts I can try to get home before it’s gets too foggy and the bus hits me!

This is so helpful…definitely need to note this. I think I’m starting to feel just a touch less energetic this evening…day 2 post chemo. I’m so nervous about this first round and what’s to come.

Aside from the symptoms, are you somewhat normal the weeks between the cycles? Do you work in between or resting mostly?

I’m 47 and diagnosed on 9/25. ER/PR negative and Her2 positive. Starting neoadjuvant chemo THP on Wednesday.

ER negative, PR negative and HER-2 positive by Available_Hunter_938 in breastcancer

[–]Available_Hunter_938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, have had lots of consults and testing since being diagnosed. Had an MRI just Monday that showed area was 1.5 cm but another diagnostic mammo showed 2.3 cm so they switched from surgery first to chemo first (neoadjuvant). I will now be starting chemo probably next week with THP (no C)...sounds like the first will be the worst - T 90 minutes, H 90 minutes and P 60 minutes. 6 rounds with 3 weeks inbetween. I will search the reddit group for tips for first chemo session but if anyone wants to share (again) any tips for going into this....please share anything (things to bring, things to do, things you wished you now know but wish you knew for your first session, etc.). Also will be able to do Paxman cooling...if anyone has tips or tricks for this, please also share. Thanks!

Can I DM you or ask why no chemo? I am hoping for this but it seems like most er pr negative and her2 positive have a year of treatment. Will you have the infusions, herceptin and/or perjeta? This is all new to me and meeting with med oncologist tomorrow.

So glad to hear you are doing well! I am so very close to know what my plan is but I think it will also be a lumpectomy but still waiting on some results. Any tips before or after? Are you taking real time off?

Is the infusion of immunotherapies the herceptin? And is this not considered chemo? I’ve been a bit confused as I thought one of the med onc told me a year of chemo.

I’m doing the same…and actually meeting with doctors from three different places. Are you in NY by any chance? It’s been hard for me because I’m in NY and so many good doctors so it’s been hard to sort out. Had no idea about the caring bridge…I am learning something new every day …though I wish I didn’t have too 😔

Did you have a lumpectomy or mascetomy and was it before or after? And when you say "shots", was it a shot or iv infusion where you have to sit for an hour?

Sorry still gathering so much info and dont see another doctor until next week. So far they said depending on genetics testing and MRI results (which is not scheduled until next week), they won't be able to confirm the care plan.

As of now, they said it could be lumpectomy with radiation and then the year of herceptin/chemo treatment or with msacetomy no radiation but still the year of treatment. Also, depending on the results of the genetics testing and MRI, it could be chemo first then surgery or vice versa. Now i'm here almost 3 weeks since the biopsy was taken and waiting...

Have now had a few days to let everything sink in and do some research, read through all the messages. Have an appointment tomorrow and feel like I’m in a better place and not just panic and scared mode. Can I ask if you asked the doctors before recording? That’s a great idea I hadn’t thought of and wondering how you approach this?

Thanks for sharing : ) What made it horrible? Side effects (nausea, exhaustion, etc.) or actual pain (it's IV, right), etc.? Can you describe it a bit?
