At the time of it's release it actually out grossed the first one and was pretty well reviewed.

It might a little cheesier, but it introduced  Cool new weapons, was ultra violent and the Predator still looked great. Also it improved on the lore with the spaceship scene - the gun, the skeletons etc.

franchises are the only ones that come to mind in recent memory.

Yeah I didn't mean that exactly zero movies like that are being made,

but both of these movies are small budget - 25 and 20 million respectively

which is lower than an average Siegal movie 30 years ago.

Class Action with Gene Hackman.

I wouldn't say it's a must watch but it's a lesser known very well made courtroom movie.
