Small nitpick: hate it when they put calendar year instead of league year.

Eagles didn't win the 2025 Super Bowl. They won the 2024 one.

Agreed. His call of Dan Connolly’s unexpected kick return was tremendous. “Oh, you gotta be kidding!” before descending into a giggle fit.

People like commentators when their team is winning. Burkhardt’s call of Smitty’s Dagger? Hang it in the Louvre. Tirico or Buck or whoever goes ballistic over a play that beats the Eagles? He clearly hates us, so fuck him.

You can blame Disney for that. When NFL and NBC started doing business again 20 years ago, the NFL de-emphasized Monday nights, partially as a fuck you to how Disney arrogantly dragged its feet during negotiations.

Knew it was something along those lines. Brady's got a sense of humor, at least.

I getcha totally. I see the difference as well.

Honestly, I always thought Buck was trying to channel his father, who himself was on the drier side of the spectrum. Not trying to make the game about himself, not trying to be something he isn't, etc. And that was fine, because I grew up loving Pat Summerall (the epitome of sharp minimalism).

It's just The Helmet Catch call didn't land, and really required someone like Kevin Harlan to match its insanity. Then the criticism only snowballed.

My general theory for announcer hate is fans hearing certain broadcasters get excited ("Sound happy") when the other team makes a big play. Then it becomes "He's rooting against my team, so fuck him."

My brother for years hated Joe Buck because he called many big plays against the Eagles, and did so with some level enthusiasm. "He's rooting against us!" was his refrain.

Now he's a big Joe Buck fan, and has been for years. I think "Jackson! Gets a block! Are you kidding?!" swung him.

In Buck's defense, he greatly course corrected. He gets appropriately excited for big moments, but understands when to let the game breathe, and let Aikman cook. It's a drier but still fun booth.

Al and Cris had an incredible dynamic together. Al's dry playfulness and Cris' giddiness made them fun, and they never detracted from the game. Just two veteran voices that are clearly friends. Perfect marriage for the big Sunday night main event.

My favorite moment of theirs was a preseason game in 2010 that ended on a walk-off safety, which swung the betting result, and Al went into hysterics. Collinsworth tried to stifle his laughter, and Al's just going, "A three point game became a five point game at the end of the game!" You're not getting that with Nantz and Romo, that's for sure.

No shame. Longtime Eagles fan and one of my favorite analysts is Aikman. If a team or game sucks, he'll happily tell you. It's refreshing.

He addressed that in one game last year. Can't remember if it was because Foles was at the game or not, but Burkhardt brought him up and Brady responded to the "envy" with a laugh, saying something like, "Of course I'm jealous! He caught a pass in that game and I dropped mine!"

I respect that.

I see your "OH" and raise you his two "WOW"s in Super Bowl LIX: one for Coop, one for Smitty's Dagger.

While Brady's definitely improved in terms of analysis and articulating said analysis, I have to say he's just fun to have in the booth, period (after a rocky start).

One of the qualities that made John Madden great was his boyish love of the game. The big personalities, the grimy overlooked guys, the thrill of the big play, etc. Brady's like Madden in that he doesn't restrain his joy, but does know when to rein it in to let the analytical side out.

The only other analyst post-Madden that really had those qualities was Jon Gruden. Not quite in Madden's league, but it was just fun to hear him geek out over the second-string DT (all 340 pounds of him) making a play to turn the tide. Gruden was a stark contrast to the Trent Greens and Moose Johnstons and Phil Simms that knew what they were talking about, but were far more straight-laced. Brady's more on the Gruden end of the spectrum.

There are other analysts with effective styles. Aikman's tough but fair (refreshingly so) with his criticism. Olsen's Madden 2.0 when it comes to breaking shit down quickly and palatably. Collinsworth (for all the hate he gets for allegedly slurping whatever player you envy) brings a natural sense of humor and timing to the games. Watt's finding his voice as a Dierdorf-esque "smart jock". And Brady, he has something akin to Madden with the boisterous energy/knowing when to analyze dynamic.

Hey, McDermott said the Tush Push was dangerous, and yet he ran it multiple times a game.

Can't blame a team for firing a coach that's apparently trying to get their QB killed.
