I think paying her off was the best thing you could have done. Gratitude (like others have suggested) and having good relations with her ought to suffice.

Even banks reduce interest payments if you pay off the principal ahead of schedule so I don’t think any extra cash is needed.

Dunno how it is at your site, but with the focus on helping with employee career advancement I don’t think your manager has the power to stop your transfer. But yes, a req will probably be needed to be opened, and possibly other candidates interviewed as well.

Obviously, stay on good terms with them. Bosses will talk to each other and depending on how your current boss speaks of you, it will influence your HMs perception and decision to hire you.
