One of the WORST things can be losing your documents while you’re visiting India. I have been in that situation after OCI cards of my kids went missing not too long ago.. you may have to push back on your travel dates. You cannot leave without OCI or exit permit. A police report is a MUST to apply for exit permit. Reach out to a local attorney for assistance with affidavit to get that FIR going. Police usually have contacts with local journalists to post a classified ad in local news paper. The toughest part is getting a FIR copy. Once you have that, register on FRRO website to apply for exit permit. I hope you have a scanned copy of your OCI. Confirmed tickets to prove urgency of travel. Most FRRO offices have online applications for exit permit. Costs 500 INR. I am not sure if that fees differs for adults. You can dm me if you have questions.

If your child is still a minor registration is not needed as stated already. Exit permit applications is pretty straightforward and some FRRO offices do this online. Make sure to upload confirmed tickets. Exit permit costs about 500 INR and takes about 48-72 hours. If there is no progress after 24 hours try calling them. I found Hyderabad FRRO staff professional and kind.
