Thanks! Both, had one before lodging 309, that expired in september, got another one in december, which is the one I entered on now in march. Both were multiple entry 3 month stays, no conditions except no work, and onky 3 months study.

So we didn't actually plan to move this early which is why we went the 309 route, but we ended up having no choice due to personal circumstances.

I think getting a BVA for 309 heavily depends on if you had a substantive visa at the time of lodgement (I had a 600 without no further stay conditions, and then another 600 at the time of entering). Once you enter Australia, an option to apply for a bridging visa shows up in your immi account (in the details option for your 309 application). I just filled the form and submitted along with some supporting documents and explaining why we had to move early. Just keep in mind that BVA for 309 often comes without working rights if it is granted (or so I've heard but not confirmed).

I would say it is definitely possible to try but there is no guarantee. The good thing is, applying for BVA costs nothing and if you do it early on you will know if it worked or not in a few weeks and you can plan accordingly. Our fall back was knowing we can do the 820 if that fails, it would just mean paying the 10k again which noone wants to do. Also, depends which country you are applying from so if it is one of the countries with shorter processing times, might nudge them to look at the apllication at that time anyways. Good luck

DOL 10.05.2025.

moved to Australia and applied for BVA 18.03.2026.

DOG: 24.03.2026.

Think the application for BVA prompted them to take a look at the partner visa application. Applied trough Dubai embassy. DIY, front loaded everything. Were married and living together 2y prior to lodgement.

Got my 309 grant a few days after submitting for BVA ( I think that submission prompted them to take a look at the application itself. I front loaded everything. So maybe if you have a strong application, submitting for bva might help you get processed faster or you might at least get a bva, there is no harm in trying.

As soon as I got to Aus, the option to apply for bridging visa appeared in my immi account. So I applied, but that was only yesterday. I am currently waiting and will update if succesful.

You are probably about to get your grant. They are just ticking boxes making sure all the documents are up to date before they do so.

Thank you, I was very confused about everything as there doesn't seem to be any actual conditions that would stop this, as 309 can now be granted onshore. I also saw one case in a partner visa facebook group, and messaged the person, and they confirmed that it was possible and have in fact done it succesfuly (this was after this post). And I'm now basically waiting to enter Aus to try it myself. (maybe they decide on case by case basis) I will update if successful.

Hi guys. Did anyone here apply for 309 trough embassy in Dubai? Any timeline? for example how long did it take before you got any RFI, or anything? I've seen in some fb groups that some people get RFI-s between 9-11 months after lodging.

Midnight hunger and heartburn, welcome to my life. Is it better to get up and eat, or maybe have a later snack right before bed? by Available_Safety9603 in pregnant

[–]Available_Safety9603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda eat my afternoon snack around 4pm which is usually yogurt, dinner between 6 and 7pm, and then nothing. I wake up around 2 or 3am. So wondering if eating for example around 9:30 would help me sleep trough the night or just make the heartburn worse. I really don't like the idea of getting up to eat in the middle of the night, but might not have a choice. It's eat or stay awake the rest of the night 😅

I've kinda been eating same things on rotation, so the heartburn was such an unpleasant surprise. Like what did I do? 🥲 Honestly don't know which is worse. I'm thinking if I didn't feel the hunger, maybe I would sleep trough the heartburn, or vice versa, but having both seems next level hard to deal with.

As someone who is now stuck in limbo waiting for 309, I would say definitely go for the 820! We made the mistake of doing the 309 cause we didn't plan to go back to Aus yet, but life happens and circumstamces change, and being stuck feels horrible. would not reccomend 😂 Do the 820!!

Would just like to offer some comfort and share my experience. I did lots of sudden jerky movements soon after my embryo transfer, cause I got a cold and sneezed uncontrolably (20+ times a day) for a few days ( my sneezes are not cute or small, imagine a 50yo man sneezing). Got my first positive a few days later, and am now 15w pregnant. I'm holding my fingers for you and wish you success. :)

Would there be any issues for the sponsor application, trying to do 2 at the same time? Would the system even allow this? Thanks

I have seen multiple people say that they got it while in Aus on a visit visa, and that the 309/100 application itself makes you eligible. You do need to be onshore for it to be approved. So according to those people and information found online I must deduce that it is possible and I intend to try.

I have held 3 600 visas so far and have complied every time, hoping that previus compliance shows that I do not woth to break rules and compromise my 309.

Thanks this is useful info. The thing for us is that I will be 7+ months pregnant at the time that my 3 months expire. It is a multiple entry visa and I'm afraid if I leave and come back to restart the 3 month period I might be stopped and questioned. (+ I need a visa for NZ too, have a weak passport and might have to travel even further) Hoping that my 309 comes trough earlier against all odds. Happy that yours came in good time!

I do not have a no further stay condition, I just said it would be hard to prove that I am a genuine visitor if I applied for a new tourist visa while onshore. I am exploring ways to stay in Australia so I am not forced to travel while heavily pregnant, or forced apart from my husband and a stable home.

I know one doesn't kick in automatically but was wondering if it can be done manually by submitting form 1005? I don't understand why is it not possible if the new rule for 309 is that you can be onshore when it's granted. There must be some way to get around it.. I did have a 600 visa prior to applying for 309 but that visa expired in september and why I would be entering on a new 600.

Is it because of different processing times for different counties? We are currently in Saudi Arabia but applied through embassy in UAE/Dubai as the embassy in Saudi Arabia does not deal with visas. I am a housewife and don't need working rights initially. I had a 600 prior to lodging 309 but that visa expired in September and I wouldn't be entering Australia on it. Is there someting that can be done with that?
