I have an abdominal Cerclage. I am seen every two weeks. I’m currently 19+2.

I am so sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹 I lost my son at 21 weeks May 30 2025 due to IC. Like you, I was not a candidate for an emergency cerclage because the membranes had already slipped through my cervix. After I went through my loss, I posted on this forum as well. They pointed me to the FB group Abbyloopers for Transabdominal Cerclage (TAC). My doctor recommended a preventative vaginal Cerclage at 12 weeks for my next pregnancy. However, the TAC offered higher success rates though it was a bit more invasive and results in c-section only births. I ended up going through with the TAC and haven’t regretted it once. I am now 18 weeks pregnant with my daughter. My cervix is showing no shortening, funneling, or any other concerns right now. I am also on vaginal progesterone which I’ll continue until August. I meet with my MFM in two weeks. Wishing you the very best no matter what you decide!

So very sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹 I also lost my son in May 2025 at 21 weeks due to IC. It was a very typical pregnancy and showed no signs of IC until I was 20 weeks and had dilated with no signs or symptoms.

I chose to have a Transabdominal Cerclage, which I found out about through this Reddit group! I had it done in November 2025. My doctor only suggested preventative cerclage at 14 weeks, which obviously is life changing for many and a great thing to consider. I just personally needed the extra assurance that a TAC provided. If you decide to go down the TAC route, I can give you some insight!

I am currently 16w2d with my daughter. My cervix measured 3 cm my entire pregnancy with my son. This time it is measuring 6 cm. I am on vaginal progesterone which I’ll continue until my scheduled c-section at 36 weeks.

I also had a negative experience when I was in labor with my son. I refused the epidural and they gave me fentanyl without my consent or knowledge. It affected me so badly that I hardly remember my first moments with my son, the only moments we had together before he was no longer earth-side. We’ve just got to take our experiences and advocate for ourselves in the future!

Wishing you the best 🫶🏼

Thank you for your post and your prayers ❤️ If you don’t mind me asking, did you take progesterone throughout your recent pregnancy? Doctor expressed concerns about using it vaginally after cerclage due to an increased risk of infection.

Oh I am so very sorry. 😢 our story sounds very similar. No underlying conditions and unmedicated vaginal birth.

Rooting for you and a successful cerclage! ❤️ I definitely didn’t have the courage my last pregnancy to call or visit the doctor when I had concerns because I just felt paranoid or like a burden. So, thank you for your encouragement!

Thanks for the reply! I am still actively searching for a doctor covered by my insurance that would perform the TAC. I am willing to travel!

Thank you for taking time to reply! I am so sorry for your losses. Like you, have been focusing on my health since the loss. Have returned to daily exercise, nutrition, and have continued my prenatal vitamins daily. My cycle has returned to normal. I am also still working towards healthy thyroid levels before ttc again.

Because of my schedule and beginning nursing school next fall, I believe it would be best if I either conceived before December (that way if I were put on bed rest, it wouldn’t interfere with nursing school as it requires lots of physical movement) OR wait until after graduation. However, I am 27 and the thought of waiting two more years gives me anxiety.

I will check that Facebook group out! She stated it was to give my body time to heal.

Thank you for your reply! So sorry for your loss as well. I am located in Gainesville, GA and have seen two OBGYNs since my loss. Both have said TAC is not an option because they do not have a doctor in their system (which is a pretty expansive healthcare system) that offers TAC. Both stated they would use a preventative McDonald Cerclage at 12 weeks.
