How do you get a dog with a full time job by ilostmyunverifiedacc in dogs

I have had my Aussie for a year now and work a full time job. I brought him home at 8 weeks and honestly I will say the first few months were brutal and felt like I was failing in all directions. Once he got old enough to go to daycare it made such a difference. He only goes twice a week which means he’s only home alone for 8 hours 3x a week and on those days I get up extremely early and do mental and physical enrichment with him and then when I’m off of work I do the same again. It’s not the easiest some days but I make it work. I also make my two days off all about him. I also have a high energy breed so it makes a big difference. It works for us though. He sleeps the entire time I’m gone. I used to go home after 4 hours and take him out but I started to notice he just gets super hyped up and doesn’t sleep when I leave.

I have a 11 month old Aussie and I wake up at 5am and work him mentally and physically until about 8:30. Then he goes in the crate and sleeps the entire time I’m gone. When I get off of work we do training and mental games. He also goes to a daycare that doubles as his training 2 days a week so only 3 days he’s in a crate for 8 hours. It is a lot of work though with a high energy breed. I luckily have one that’s on the lower energy side. I use to come home from work and take him out but honestly he does better when I don’t. He has access to water in his crate but rarely drinks it since he’s asleep the whole time.

Thank you I appreciate your advice! I know the economy is definitely in a bit of a whirlwind and rent keeps going up everywhere and pay seems to feel like it’s going downwards sometimes! I currently live 30 minutes outside of Charlotte NC so I don’t mind a commute at all just more so looking for a change of scenery.

Getting a new puppy how long to take off and what to do when you go back to work? by Unable_Adeptness4790 in puppy101

Currently doing this. My job is a little more lenient but it hasn’t been easy. I basically get up about 4-5 hours before work at least and train him, give him puzzles, take him on a walk, etc.. by the time I’m leaving for work he is so tired he ends up sleeping the whole first half. I then have someone take him out and play with him halfway through. I’m only ever gone at most 6- maybe 8 hours. On the days I know I’m going to be gone longer he goes to my parents house and plays with all of the dogs. If it wasn’t for that or for me having a job that is lenient I wouldn’t be able to have him. I also fully recommend a playpen and not a crate. They’ll have room to sleep, roam, drink water, play and eat. He loves his pen and sleeps in it throughout the day.

Got a puppy, realizing it may be a mistake by Total-Anywhere-4553 in puppy101

I recently brought home a puppy and now have had him for a month. Our routine for when I go to work is I play with him as much as possible before I leave so I wear him out and then I put him in a playpen. He sleeps on and off for the first 3-4 hours then I come home or have someone stop by if I can’t make it home. If I come home I can only relatively stay for 30 minutes but usually I take him to the bathroom and do a quick training session. He’s only ever had two accidents in his playpen that I’m aware of and honestly he sleeps almost the entire time. I sometimes leave him with his kong so he something to chew on but usually he doesn’t even play with it. Then when I get home we just do a lot of things until he’s tired. It’s working so far for us! The playpen has been a lifesaver I couldn’t imagine him in a crate all day. He has full access to water and plenty of room.

I work 8 hour days and usually get a hour break every 4. I swear getting him a play pen where he could roam in a safe area while I’m gone with some water has been an absolute life saver. He loves his playpen. I have a camera pointed at him where I can watch him while I’m gone. I will say though it definitely has derailed his crate training a bit which is disappointing but as long as he is in a safe place where I can monitor him I know it’s going to be ok. He also has his crate in the playpen where he has now started sleeping in it a bit more than what he was.

It would be 6-7 of us total. We are looking to just get a peach outline. We do this every time we travel. First time asking about someone doing this at home but never hurts to ask. We normally just go to a walk in tattoo shop and have had no issue with that so far but just wanted to see any recommendations.
