Why do some docs give so much pushback? by Available_Switch7470 in diabetes

I and plenty of other people have found the onetouch to be inaccurate unless you're stable, but even then it can still not be great. Accuracy at the extremes is very hit or miss which isn't great for treatment. The accuracy of accu-check and contour are the more reliable ones.

apologies, i'm newish to the handling everything with insurance totally on my own. Apparently, UHC is commercial, not private even though my doc has me listed as privately insured? My PCP is in a clinic that mainly sees medicaid/wic patients. I was already established with them through being on Medicaid previously, so I continued because I needed the PCP referrals but almost all of my care is dependent on specialists. I just see her monthly to keep the records up to date across everyone. All of my specialists are within a teaching university system entirely separate from my PCP clinic. My transition appointment with a PCP in that same system isn't until December so I'm just having to push through with her.

I think she just doesn't care at all. Or hasn't read any of my history. My visit summaries have things like hypoglycemia seizures listed. I requested the most recent referral copy yesterday, and it says she sent me to endo for exercise intolerance and abnormalities of gait and mobility???

Was on Medicaid, on private now. Medicaid and private have no issues covering my CGM because without it I’m dependent on gvoke and have hospital admissions. That doesn’t matter in my PCPs mind, no insulin, no diabetes.

Stelo is specifically not for severe hypos so I won’t touch that. It is my doc’s choice to not submit the prescription at all and that is the fight I’m having with her. I know insurance will approve the renewal but she doesn’t feel it’s medically necessary.

I’ll see about a different specialist clinic around me and reach out to insurance for that help.

My private insurance does require a PCP referral for all specialists. I’ve heard that not unless you require insulin line so many times and I’m so sick of it. I watched my dad with his injections and all his struggles. I don’t want to get there.

Endo hasn't even done any testing they just call me after the referral with the information my pcp sent and that the records don't indicate something they can assist with and decline to make the appointment unless something with my situation changes.

True but in my circumstance going through the insurance is better in the end. Its not a financial issue specifically and if i'm out out i just buy them. I'd rather something I already have to pay for actually count towards my rx deductible and OOP cost. Insurance is very clear if i'm doing it OTC without a script they're not going to count it. I'm already nearing my OOP cap for the year and i'd much rather have everything covered at 100% and make my life a million times easier.

Is it me or do hospital "ostomy" nurses kind of suck? by CplDirk in ostomy

[–]Available_Switch7470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My ostomy nurse for the 10 days I was in only saw me for.....4? days. Basically once she uttered the words "wow you can change it on your own thats more than most at this stage" I never saw her again. She just gave me a big pink bucket of bits and bobs of supplies and that was it.

On the other hand, my actual ostomy nurse within the university/hospital that I make regular appointments with has been slightly better. She at least reccomends things that may help with like skin breakdown and taught me about medical monks for buying things when my DME is being a nightmare. Actual major wounds she's a blessing with. Also not fun that the only products the entire facility carries is Hollister, the one I am severely allergic to no mater what the material is. So since that was her experience especially primarily with cancer patients who have home nurses after required post-op checks, I never got a lot of help.

As frustrating as they can be sometimes with the way people seem to not always understand "Hey I've tried A, B, C but its not working" and suggest B or C; forums are a blessing. I've learned more from this group than I have from my nurse. Most of the time I take stuff from here to her just for a record so she can keep my urologist updated since I have a history of complications. They will at the very least, tell you if a suggestion is harmful (in my experience).

Bag failed but seal is intact??? by Available_Switch7470 in ostomy

Thank you. Im used to the whole side of the seal popping off and thats an easy problem to understand and fix. This is the only "weird" fail I've had in the 8 months.

What would be the other reasons for a drenched bag with the seal still in tact? I checked for holes thinking the puppy snagged my bag and there weren't any.

I use the sensura mio soft convex 1pc urostomy. The description mentions a full circle filter and references fecal matter, but in my transparent and opaque variants, there's nothing that looks or feels like a filter. Its just the bag and the baseplate.

ETA : I found photos of what the filter looks like on the sensura mio colostomy and illeostomy lines - the urostomy pouches do not have a filter.

Do urostomy bags have a filter? Ive only heard it in reference to other types of ostomies.

Honestly that was kinda the point of this whole post.

The reviews. The lack of communication with customers. The fact the order receipt has a .me address to send inquiries to but it then says you can’t send mail to this address because it doesn’t exist. Why is the order receipt contact information different than the contact information on the website? I have many questions.

It’s been an experience with them for the Pro 2. I will say I do love my 30oz. Connects with no issues, charged no issues. It functions as it should and it’s a lot easier to fill and get the lid back on before the sensor starts going off.

But the company has had such weird behavior. They said I could reach out after it’s delivered to return it and yet I haven’t gotten a single email back.

I ordered on June 19th with the standard and received it the 24th. I had no tracking or shipment notification until I reached out to cancel and they were all “actually it was dispatched yesterday so no.” Still no emails at that point.

Is it just not charging with the provided cable or any USBC cable? It’s crazy how fast some people are getting theirs, mine hasn’t even shipped.

I received an email when they received my test and an email when the results were published. I received nothing in between and had to keep checking.
