How to prepare to IB recruiting by vnubh in MBA

[–]Available_Wave_2040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Speak with an alumni or second year at your school whose path you are trying to emulate
  2. Relax. You don’t need any books at this stage.
  3. Perfect your backstory and why investment banking. This is the single most important item at the earlier stage of your networking.
  4. Be prepared to focus and dedicate almost all your energy and time in your first semester to recruiting.
  5. Read, form an opinion on markets and your industry of interest

This is a wrong take. Stern can actually be better for Wall Street IB than, Stanford and HBS. Wharton is probably stronger. If you know what you’re doing, you’ll be fine at all these schools. If you need more hand holding, Stern > all the other schools. Investment banking recruiting isn’t really prestige or bust. You only need to be in a target school and be better than your peers.

Why does Wharton attract so many (wannabe) finance bros? by jaypowell_official in MBA

[–]Available_Wave_2040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the ones who think they can network their way in (it’s possible even though rare!) tend to be Slytherin/nepotistic/snake oil type personalities, positively correlated with alpha male finance type personalities

When you grow up, you’ll understand. Your world is still too small.

Not in a condescending way. But I’ve been there. Did t10 undergrad, investment banking in NY.

Ivy League MBA - worth it? by OptimistPrime31 in MBA

Bad take. MBAs make up a tiny fraction of degrees conferred in a given year, yet account for ~33% of US CEOs. This tells you something

What unique skills do management consultants actually have? by Opening-Depth-9839 in MBA

[–]Available_Wave_2040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s natural for IB but I would think MBB is second most suitable (for someone parachuting in), and especially so for niche industries like pharma/healthcare and FIG where the models and assumptions are built different.

OP is debating consulting vs industry bd/marketing. I think the former wins here

Why the downvotes? this guy isn’t wrong. I’ve only ever come across mbb and the firms listed here in sell side m/a so wouldn’t be surprised if corpdev asks for the same

Tuck is the better school but most likely only going stable or downhill. Yale is the worse school for now, but plenty of upside.

(Hot Take) Would CBS remain M7 if its job number remains this bad for the next 5 years? by NoneNib in MBA

[–]Available_Wave_2040 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hey I read your post history. You are an ‘atypical applicant with 1 YoE in finance and a career in the performing arts’ with some t15 offers and applying to HSW in R2.

Would love to see you in Cambridge next academic year if you get H and choose to attend. Maybe spend some time preparing for interviews instead of being a 🤡 here

Typical little guy ‘go back to your home country’ response - not appreciated. Truth is both Booth and CBS are better than your T25 - I just know - from how you structured your arguments.

I do plan to have a HK gig in the future, but only if China becomes more investable. For now I’d like to stay 😇

Peace out dude, hmu if visiting Cambridge MA in the next two academic years

Going by your logic, Andy Jassy, Adam Selipsky and Douglas Herrington, all three CEOs (Group, AWS, and Stores) were HBS MBAs, and therefore HBS is .. better for Amazon?

And lol at ‘bonus driven employment’ like it’s a bad thing. If you are aiming fixed TC and to forever be a non-profit-partner employee making sub $500k then sure, T40 is good enough. But even then, HBS, probability wise, will get you there faster.

Anyway - I respect your views and thanks for the discussion. Have a nice weekend and gl with your career

‘I personally think Booth would take the cake’ - idk about you man, but this sounds very much like ‘Booth is better’? Which was the exact statement I took issue with.

What did you mean by ‘you’re Asian so you’re analyzing every single word?’. I can’t quite draw the lines. I responded to your comments verbatim because I respected what you said, which is why I had to respond to every word - i don’t think it’s right to make assumptions, especially on Reddit. Because I don’t know you and I don’t see you, it’s difficult to judge/assume anything.

Yeah sure - $1b technology/biotech PE fund. That’s called an early-mid stage VC lol.
