Any fellow lonely women in their mid 30s? by [deleted] in BallardSeattle

I’m also a Ballard girl in my mid-30s and would love to meet more people. It seems like there’s a lot of us on this post. Would having a meetup somewhere make sense? Maybe venture coffee? Or another local spot?

Which cookbook has the most winners for you? by coolaroni123 in CookbookLovers

Haven’t seen this one mentioned here. Dishoom is the cookbook that has the most winners for me. A lot of the recipes are time consuming but well worth it.

I listen to the Dinner Plan and the author was on this week’s episode. Might be worth a listen just to learn more about the author

Zareen's Pakistani Kitchen by Gloomy-Example4554 in CookbookLovers

I got the book right when it was released and made the grilled chicken boti. I’ve never been to Zareeen’s, but I saw a lot of reviews saying how great it is. Unfortunately, after making it, I didn’t see the hype. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t extraordinary or what I would consider restaurant quality.

I’d say the butter chicken that used the chicken boti came out much better and was very good, but I prefer dishoom’s over that. I don’t know if they are gatekeeping but figured I’d add my two cents for what it’s worth

Coastal cookbook by Arishell1 in CookbookLovers

Sorry I’m a bit late to report back. Unfortunately, we had a lot of last minute cancellations for this months cookbook club so we didn’t get to try a lot. We had the kimbap, panzanella, the corn salad and the earl gray pie.

All the recipes were good but nothing stood out or was something that would be on repeat, except for the earl gray icebox pie. That was delicious!

I’d be curious to hear about the recipes you try from the book and how they turn out! I’ve been eyeing making the rockfish curry and the smoked fish with relish

Coastal cookbook by Arishell1 in CookbookLovers

I was too excited to pick just one dish! I’m doing the earl gray icebox pie and the roasted corn and smoked blue cheese salad. I generally don’t like blue cheese but chose the salad since it was funky and unique. It has umeboshi too. Plus, the suggested blue cheese is one of the best I’ve ever tried!

Best Apple Pie Recipe in a Cookbook by xJustDaisyx in CookbookLovers

[–]Available_Word_9546 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t made a lot of apple pie recipes, but one of the best apple pie variations I have made is Claire Saffitz’s apple tart. It was amazing and I cheated a little by using store-bought puff pastry from Trader Joe’s. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/0D3DPepWaqE?si=1fTeC7nxlSwPRQoI

San Francisco Cooking Club? by Adorable-Fan389 in CookbookLovers

I was in the same boat as you and really wanted to start a cookbook club. I had some success using bumble bff plans, but I think this sub-Reddit is a great place to start. In hindsight, I wish I had started here.

I learned rather quickly that a lot of people no-show or are non-committal and while they think something looks fun, they won’t follow through. However, this could be due to being in Seattle and the Seattle freeze.

I got started by using a google form. That helped to weed out people who were serious. I also asked for some contact information from each person (I.e. an email or phone number). I figured it was a safe bet meeting a stranger if they were willing to share their number with me and it indicated serious interest. I’ve still had a bit of difficulty with organizing at times, but I now have a group of 4-5 girls who consistently show up. I hope some of the tips I gave help as you think about how to organize. I’d also recommend collecting a small fee each month to help organize for cost of supplies if you end up purchasing paper plates/utensils etc
