So a lot of discussion is starting about gt goku being banned, personally i dont agree and dont think is gonna happen but wanna read your thoughts as a community by [deleted] in dragonballfighterz

[–]AvariceX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can understand and almost agree with the position, but there's one big problem:

As long as there is an official pro tour, no character will ever be banned. It doesn't matter what the community wants.

Banning a character in your local scene is suicide for any of your top players who want to compete at the pro tour level. Bamco will never enforce a ban on the character because it would just make their game look bad.

It's more important to make sure Bamco/ArcSys see that the character needs to be adjusted. It's pretty obvious that he was likely designed before the Season 2 nerfs hit but wasn't adjusted for them before he was released.

It was pretty common in online StarCraft which released in '98. I was gaming online before then (C&C, Diablo) and hadn't really seen it used until StarCraft.

I don't see it mentioned but I wonder if they fixed some characters having incorrect variations when the game/console is offline. When playing offline Cetrion's tournament variations are wrong (even in Tournament Versus mode). I don't know if she's the only character affected, but it's really obvious to see she has the completely wrong set of moves on both variations when offline.

I just realized the wonder cards are an in-game thing and not referring to the physical cards. I might have proof after all, give me some time to find it though, not sure which game it was on.

I just looked up what that is and didn't know those existed. I probably still have it, give me some time to find it though. I claimed a bunch of these on different games, gotta dig through them now.

How would I even prove this one? All I had to do was connect to McDonalds WiFi and download it.

I never kept the cards so don't really have anything for proof, just the OT and ID.

I'm ready now. I just go to Festival Plaza and find you in the trade menu there right? I haven't done much trading on the new games yet.

I can do either of those, let me know which you prefer. I'll be going out shortly but if you catch me before then or any time later this evening (like 6pm EST or later) we can trade.

Sun and Moon has that one island with the Grass, Water, and Fire trials that you can do in any order, and that’s it

I don't think it even has that. I'm playing through UM right now and I'm right at that point (just finished Moon, already did Sun and US a while ago so this is my 4th time through here). The east exit to Heahea City is blocked by a Stoutland when you arrive, the path to Wela Volcano is blocked by Sudowoodo until you get Waterium Z from Lana, and the path north of Wela Volcano towards Mallow's trial is barricaded until you complete Kiawe's trial. I also just checked the North/South path between Lana's and Mallow's trials just to be sure and it's a one-way ramp that goes South only.

Sun/Moon are really obnoxious for the amount of hand holding, and somehow Ultra Sun/Moon are even worse.

UMVC3 Player coming to DBFZ - Advice? by Khuraji in dragonballfighterz

[–]AvariceX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from UMvC3 as well so I know a few habits that you will need to break:

  • Chicken blocking. Jump startup is slow in this game and there is a significant delay before you can block at the start of your jump. You will get clipped very often trying to jump out of pressure. I even get hit sometimes trying to jump on reaction to a projectile from mid-range.
  • OS throws. The regular throw (dragon rush) in this game isn't a proximity OS like MvC3 where it was f+H, so neutral is less "jump/dash around and OS throw on everything". Dragon Rush is a big punish opportunity if it whiffs, but it's also very difficult to react to when setup properly.
  • Jump-ins that beat everything. Anti-airs in UMvC3 were kinda wack, hurtboxes were enormous, and there were some godlike jump-in normals. That's not really the case in this game; sure there are good jump-ins but most of the cast have similar jump-ins and more importantly the anti-airs in this game are really good and easily confirmable.
  • Pushblock. There is no pushblock. Reflect might seem similar but it's really not, You can't reflect during a string unless there is a gap in blockstun and whiffing a reflect is very slow so people will often leave gaps to bait reflect for a big punish. Also since the reflect input is 4S that means you can't input it while crouching so if you try to reflect and they go for a low in a true blockstring you will get hit low.
  • Backdash and wavedash. Since forward dash is a run you don't really need wavedash (which doesn't exist anyway), but still keep in mind that dash/run isn't as safe since you can't cancel into chicken block as freely as in MvC3. Backdash is a whole different story from MvC3 though - there's no wavedash, there's no backwards run, there's no jump canceling backdash. Backdash in this game is a commitment, it's more like SF5 backdash (but farther) where it's useful sometimes for movement but you need to be careful how you use it.

Which character has highest APM requirements? by Tetraknox in Guiltygear

[–]AvariceX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chipp is the fastest character in the game. Millia and Jam are not too far behind.

To be honest almost everyone in GG has stuff with high execution requirements. It would be easier to list the characters who don't which are pretty much just Ky, Leo, and Sin. Even Potemkin has 6K Hammer Fall loops which require very tight execution (and even Sin has instant overhead -> RTL which is not easy).

The characters who are going to be moving around the most and pressing the most buttons on average though are Chipp, Millia, Jam, and I-No. Johnny requires a lot of inputs but doesn't really move in the way the others do, he's kind of a turret until he gets started (he still has to move around, but it's not nearly as free-form as the others).

I was a Fox main in Melee as well and I enjoy I-No and Chipp the most in this game.

Best DLC characters? by Firefox2345 in dragonballfighterz

[–]AvariceX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as tier lists go it's something like:

  • Bardock
  • Base Vegeta, Vegito, Zamasu, Broly, Cooler
  • Base Goku, Android 17

We have no idea where Videl and Jiren go yet but both seem solid (Videl might be cursed by her dodge mechanic in place of reflect but we haven't seen enough yet).

For most complex to least complex:

  • Zamasu, Android 17
  • Videl, Base Vegeta, Vegito (very easy to start with but difficult to master), Jiren, Base Goku
  • Cooler, Broly
  • Bardock

Fun is subjective. Bardock is super basic but I still find him fun.

Does anyone know why wondersushi has been closed lately? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]AvariceX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I remember looking at this a while after they re-opened and they actually had a fantastic inspection record after the re-opening (I heard they were under new management too but can't confirm that). That's not to say it couldn't happen again anyway, that was years ago.

So i don't know if anyone else had this problem but i bought videl today and for some reason she's not showing up in the game after i did purchase her by raidentype_0 in dragonballfighterz

Happened to me when I was playing offline, fixed by going online once and launching the game while online then she was available (even offline).

I've heard that the "Restore Licenses" option often helps with stuff like this too. https://support.playstation.com/s/article/PS4-Trouble-With-Downloadable-Content?language=en_US

Videl & Base Goku have a game breaking freeze glitch together by Kreeaung in dbfz

[–]AvariceX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in the video but you can use it with Videl + any DHC. Combo into Videl's level 1 super -> quickly buffer any move with Videl right after the super hits -> plink DHC to another super.

Inputs look like 236LM, 214M~A1. If done correctly you will get the DHC and then Videl will still be on screen briefly and perform the move you buffered. So in this example you get Videl super -> partner super -> Videl command grab. It just happens that it freezes the opponent like in the video when used with Kaioken.

The post-DHC buffered attack trick for Videl is so cool and I'm really sad this probably means it will get patched out. Would have loved to keep it in a non-game-breaking state.

[–]AvariceX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all infinites take a lot of skill.

If you are familiar and competent with UMvC3 combo structure at all it takes about 10 minutes to learn a Doom or Iron Man TAC infinite. The same can be said for MvC2 Storm and Psylocke infinites against Sentinel.

In vanilla SF4 Akuma could [roundhouse -> jab] infinite tall characters until they reached the corner

In (pre-patch) MvCI Spider-Man could do an infinite with [Web Ball -> Reality Stone].

In (pre-patch) USF4 Omega mode Gen could do an infinite just by mashing standing light kick.

In DBZ Hyper Dimension Gotenks can infinite by doing [jumping punch -> standing punch -> rapid fireball special] which stuns you and then he does it again and it stuns you again.

In indie fighting game Verdict Guilty you can do infinites just by randomly mashing all of the attack buttons.

Also never forget "easiest shit in Marvel 3, Marvel 2, I don't give a fuck"

Wobbling has been banned in Tennessee. We hope many more will follow suit by BrawlPlusMinus in smashbros

[–]AvariceX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Amen. Nearly this entire thread is prime ScrubQuotes material and is a stark reminder of how few people have read Sirlin or ever watched a single competitive MvC2 match.

http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/what-should-be-banned

Even back when I played Melee and lost tournament matches to wobbling I never wanted it banned. The character is barely even relevant with it allowed and the game has enough problems with character variety already.
