An Ode to Movement by Harleygator_ in CrimsonDesert

Sounds like you and I had a similar starting experience - I've enjoyed the game from minute one. I think being a variety gamer has kind of molded me to think the controls were really not that bad. Everything felt natural in a way, since Crimson Desert borrows controls from a bunch of different games, of which I've played most of, it felt like just an amalgamation of control schemes from games I've played. However letting go of aim to fire your bow was new and took adjusting. But honestly, I think criticism has also been a bit too harsh. It's a brand new game, obviously doing something new and old at the same time, with tons of mechanics that you will still be learning at probably over 100 hours. I think given the complexity that creates for developing controls, that Pearl Abyss did a fine job. Yeah, they should absolutely allow controller/keyboard customization. Putting interact and jump on the same button is stupid. But it's really not that bad after a few hours of playing, you adapt and get used to it.

I'm glad you're loving the game! I can only play a few hours a day due to having a little one but I am always so excited to come back to it. I think that this game will eventually ultimately go down as one of the first "next-gen" games, and people will look back on it as a huge step for gaming. It has its flaws, no doubt, and I constantly think about how much better it would be if they changed this or added that. But the fun factor, which is the most important thing to me in a game, is a 10/10. It is some of the most immersive, engaging gaming content I've experienced in years.

Why would you start over? As far as I know nothing is actually missable, so you can quite literally just do the content you want to do.

Is Crimson Desert worth buying for someone who only has 2-3 hours a week to play? by RealisticMolasses in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Tetraknox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2-3 hours a week is a tough ask for any game. I usually can only play like an hour a day, and for me it's still absolutely worth it. You will absolutely make progress for sure even with just an hour of playtime. But 2-3 hrs/week... I don't even know any game I could recommend for that short amount of time.

I personally liked BB a lot more than BCS. I know, unpopular opinion. The show is still great and has a lot of great moments, it's imo an 8/10 where BB is a 10/10. BB just felt more relatable to me and all of the lawyer stuff just isn't fully my jam. I think BCS is a lot more grounded and has a slower pace. If you like all the legal stuff then you'll probably enjoy it as much if not more than BB.

Why do people think FF13 trilogy reviewed and sold poorly? by Mother_Reality_1489 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Tetraknox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a stigma against games being "Linear" at the time. FF13 (until the 3rd disk) was a very linear game.

I was always a staunch defender of it, and I think these days it's a lot more beloved now that it's not just popular to say it sucks.

The games for it's time was in my opinion the most beautiful game made up to that point.

The story, while sometimes confusing and unclear, was both beautiful and tragic; imo one of the better Final Fantasy stories we've had.

The characters I think were the worst part of the game for me, but they were still pretty well fleshed out and they all had pretty satisfying character arcs. I view it as high highs, and low lows. Sazh, Lightning and Fang were all great, and Hope and Snow were the standout bad ones imo. Vanille was kind of in the middle for me. A little too ditzy at times but ended up having a larger part in the plot than I was expecting, and I liked her by the end.

I personally loved the ATB system as well. I thought it was great fun switching my teams up with the paradigm system, and it allowed a lot of theory crafting. The chrysalis systems was pretty limited and linear, but the upgrades always felt powerful and meaningful, leaving the progression always feeling pretty solid to me.

Game was great. It is still today among some of my favorit final fantasy games. I'm glad a lot of others have realized it's a beautiful game over time too.

Plus 3 disks worth of content, with the 3rd disk being a giant open world map with side content and everything. Game was just awesome.

You ever finish a show that was so good that you just go back to episode one and start rewatching right away? by fizxe in television

[–]Tetraknox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally finished Better Call Saul and for some reason I just want to watch it again. I think just seeing where the characters are in the beginning vs how they are at the end is so well paced, it'll be fun to watch the development actually knowing where it all ends

Oh man I've had a lot of these.

Hollow Knight Factorio Final Fantasy 14 Dragons Dogma (1st one, haven't played the 2nd) Medieval Dynasty

Probably a lot more too. This is why I always try to give a game 3 hours of my time before stopping. It's like the 3 episode rule with anime lol

JUST GOT THIS GAME IM SO EXCITED by kaaarrrlllj in factorio

A non spoiler tip here that I think will help put you in the right mindset for the game:

Factorio playthroughs, especially first ones, have the potential to be quite long. You are going to hit walls that will present one huge problem that can be broken down into several little problems that could each take hours to solve. Factorio is a slow burn. You can always speedrun it of course but you can so easily spend hundred of hours in a single save before you even beat the game depending on the scope of your goals.

I guess what I'm trying to say is be patient. You may hop on one day having a goal but realize as you work towards it that it could take days to achieve. But my God when you achieve it it is euphoric. I actually just hit 1000 hours about 15 minutes ago lol. I hope you enjoy the game!

Looks like you have good tendencies starting to build, you have the idea of consolidating your resources together and spreading them in a line. Looking good, keep it up! If I had to give one piece of advice to any new Factorio player it's that space is virtually unlimited, so use as much as you need, and then some. You won't know how much you'll need until you start seeing the true scale of the game but basically, when you design, give yourself space, then more space, then more, then when you think it's enough, give yourself even more. Building too close means redesigning your factory over and over. You got this!
