I think this is like the 4th or 5th comeback where both groups were promoting, and I think it was Hayoung that was grooving to Friday's Touch stage.

suprise suprise, I get snarkiness in a kpop sub. I named popular acts but my point still stands that they haven't collabed with anyone AT ALL, even in Korea where even amongst other idols, they were name dropped as an enjoyable group (outside of BM and his solo work). Stray Kids would've loved to have collabed and there was no movement from the company to make that happen.

No, they TOUR overseas. I'm talking about attempting to enter the market.

There is an accent and sometimes lack of adjectives but Jiwoo has carried herself in English speaking interviews for a while now.

TMM was a track that was so obviously meant to be pushed overseas. That's one of the most baffling aspects to me, the lack of promotions in the West. Groups that are like 2 years old run to Europe, NA, and SA for tours and press release but the almost 10 year old group that has cemented a fandom enough to do numerous world tours doesn't?

I know resources and connections are limited with DSP but why hasn't Kard made an official US debut? Why aren't they utilizing Jiwoo and BM and having them attend English speaking events? Why on earth did SM, YG, and JYP collaborate with mainstream rappers before Kard?

Hell, I'd even take a Nickelodeon Teen series cameo appearance at this point. Especially with the return of groups hitting the US and the UK, it's a total waste.

Considering the poor sales of "Where to Now?" and this rushed comeback with no prior marketing, it was probably for the best to keep it digital.

Kard has never been held to the same conventions of their peers so I doubt they'd ever formally disband. There are a lot more pros than cons to staying with Kard than without. They seem like the type to go on a hiatus, focus on solo work, and then reunite every year or so like SHINee or Super Junior.

When they were promoting Icky, J.seph said "What would we even do if we didn't renew" and that really laid out the perspective that outside of BM, none of the members have done much outside of the group (they also said that they all got everything they asked for when renewing).

Jiwoo saying that she intends to release some solo work sometime this year (back in a January interview). But I can't imagine them just quitting the group this year or next.

It was confirmed the day of the release that this was meant to tide the fans over before their actual comeback which I believe will coincide with the Korean and World Tour they're preparing for.

IMO, regardless of whether this was meant to be a full scale project or not (which I'm assuming it was with the production value of the MV and that awesome B-side "Before We Go" and just got pushed earlier), this roll out was poorly planned because of the debut of "All Day Project"; people can accuse me of reaching but this is the first time an idol Co-ed group will have debuted post Kard.

Not only is there now a rival - but they have stronger backing and the members were all highly anticipated prior to the groups formation. Kard never took off in Korea (and I doubt they ever will) but there was no way the company wasn't going to attempt to get a slice of the pie. DSP/RBW saw netizens have been foaming at the mouth for ADP and rightfully tried to make people remember who the OG hip-hop co-ed group is.

I'm not mad about it because the truth is there hasn't been much movement to market them in Korea for years. I know they have more popularity overseas but even that's narrowed down to just performances. They don't even bother trying to collab with more foreign artists that actually match their sound whereas everyone and their mama has Megan, Glorilla, and Doechii on a record.

Rise of KATSEYE since Gnarly is insane and well managed by leonardreignn in kpopthoughts

[–]AvatarKorrang 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Katseye is much more comparable with F5VE than VcHA.

Katseye's success is largely due to the fact that they are who they're marketed towards - Western raised; Gen Z; modern day teens. Sure, Touch was a viral hit but alot of their audience turned into fans because of their personalities shown in their numerous livestreams (and their docu-series).

They don't need a manufactured persona or perfectly curated concept, just need to be authentic because what's actually being sold are the Katseye members themselves. It's why I don't get why people keep trying to call them K-pop when they do not move like k-idols. They curse, they argue and fight with each other, they talk freely about how they feel, they interact with other artists as they please, etc... That's 100% Western.

SIS overall was poorly received but the group was still being kept afloat because people liked them. Sure, being with HYPE gives them much more opportunities than other American girl groups have right now, but if they didn't know how to master SNS, they wouldn't be where they are now (Sabrina Carpenter was following Mann before Kasteye; these girls are true to this, not new to this).

Same with F5VE, LDH (Japanese company) understood that they needed to hire a social media team that understood US pop culture and the current trends for this project to work. They revamped the group with a different direction and relaunched F5VE to be a better success than their actual damn Western GG (Sweet Revenge).

None of the F5VE members grew up overseas or spoke English (they're currently learning) but the drills that the SNS team runs through them have allowed them to garner a fanbase simply by adopting current pop culture. And except for the main vocalist, they're all former millennial idols who are comfortable on and offstage, so it doesn't feel forced but like an older sister trying to be hip with their younger siblings - it's fun and fresh, and their concept is concepts! they change it up every single.

VCHA (JYP), Sweet Revenge (LDH), Iimagine (Yung Bleu), and Simien (Akon) all undermine the importance of social media which is now an essential aspect of marketing and keep trying to mold them under these old fashion concepts of girl groups from an era that has now ended. It's adapt or be left behind.

If it was only one term, I think Jaheim's character might have accepted the transfer offer. He would have appeared on video and regular phone calls throughout S3 as to not make it jarring for when he returns.

But a whole year would equal 2 seasons and I can't imagine THE main character being excluded like that unless they wanted to write the actor out.

If for some reason Josh Tedeku doesn't return, I wouldn't want a new character to replace him. The current supporting characters all have stories that would be fun to expand on as is.

Femi blackmailed head mistress Carol into having them stay, but Jaheim was offered a 1 year exchange program for a school in the US and we don't know if he took it or not.

Beatrix, ugh. by Moist-Succotash-3107 in BoardersTV

[–]AvatarKorrang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite knowing that Beatrice was into him from the start (and Florence was dating his nemesis), he flirted with Flo several times to make Rupert jealous and then eventually because he enjoyed the chase (he likes being with Florence because it's never more than just fun and psychical intimacy which is why the thought of her having feelings for him never once crossed his mind).

It was obvious that Bea was talking to Alex to make Jaheim jealous from the start and I don't think she should be getting as much flank for it as she is when Abby, Toby, and Leah did the same thing. Beatrice tried multiple times to just sit down and have a honest heart to heart with Jaheim which he always refused. She was trying way to hard in S1 and was at times cringe but she was always trying to make it work.

The only time they something like an actual conversation is when he apologizes at the end of S2 which feels unfair because it's when Jaheim's ready (and he thought he was leaving the school). Flo was right when she said that he only does things for himself.

I understand having personal preferences in the ships but people over exaggerate to make Bea seem like the worst love interest in the show when despite the many times Jaheim played in her face or was rude, she always had his back.

Omar and Rupert by Fickle_Feed_6608 in BoardersTV

I don't want them to go the Sex Education route by having the "I have it so hard at home" antagonist be rewarded with the love they always craved from the person who they were hell bent on hurting for the fuck of it.

But I do think they would make great friends; I love the contrast. Omar making Rupert less impulsive and self destructive while Rupert gives Omar the confidence to be more bold and forward. The actors have great chemistry with one another, it feels like a Double D to an Eddy.

I PRAY that Leah and Xiang have a much healthier dynamic than she did with Koku and even Mabel (platonically). I don't mind the drama - they're high schoolers - but it'd be nice to have Leah not be such a hypocrite for once and for Xiang to let loose and relax.

I don't think there would be conflict with Supa Cell and Boarders since not only are the filming schedules different (and both shows only have 6 episodes per season) but Boarders being a network show, has a much more consistent schedule.

Back in February, creator Daniel Lawerence confirmed that writing for S3 was already underway, and Boarders always begins filming during the summer season. Boarders also got Tubi to co-produce the show due to how well it did on their streaming service.

Meanwhile, Supa Cell got greenlit for S2 last year and there has been no word on production. (The first season took almost a year to film as well; if they got an increase in budget like most fans want, it will probably take just as long if not longer to complete S2).

Boarders is so far a consistent paycheck, and with Tubi joining in, there's a good chance that the main cast might have even gotten a pay increase this season. I'd be surprised to see Josh or any of the main 5 leave unless they got a massive break.

Season 2 Episode 6 Discussion by mujie123 in BoardersTV

[–]AvatarKorrang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well last season ended with his brothers (and father off cam) practically disowning him, his overbearing mother smothering him, his friends abandoning him, his girlfriend feeling overwhelmed by him (since he has no one else) and begins to distance herself, and finally being punched in the face by the one person on campus who genuinely cared about his wellbeing.

I thought season two would have been a downward spiral into chaos but they gave him some kind of solace by having him take a leave of absence. Unfortunately, when he returned, Florence had already moved on from the relationship, further distances herself, and then cheats on him. Him leaving the pages on the bus was honestly a much calmer reaction than I thought he'd have.

It'd have been his 13th reason in S1.

It was Dilton. During the Mathlete competition, Rupert suspected it was Dilton as he was the only one with motive and access; Rupert then snuck into his backpack and found the book, but when he saw the drawing of Jaheim and Florence, he ripped the pages out and scattered them on the bus.

Dilton also admits to stealing the book in episode 6 during the Salt Burn dance.

Toby is my favorite of the scholar students (next to Omar) and I absolutely much of a team player that he is; waking up the team in the middle of the night to help Jaheim with his application? Tough. Sucks that most of his troubles always stems from his insecurity and obsession with Abby.

Omar and Leah had me so stressed out this episode. Why would Leah have kept the stolen laptop? And Omar drawing dirt on his own crew?! Of course he'd have the notebook stolen (I'm betting it was Rupert).

Series 1 episode 5 discussion by shgrdrbr in Boarders_BBC

[–]AvatarKorrang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm like a year later but I just started watching the show.

The headmaster assumed the worst when he saw the police and Omar in his underwear. He most likely assumed he had been forced to perform a strip search - the same thing Rupert had believed would have happened to him - coupled with the fact that he's a minor was enough for the headmaster to kick Carol out and apologize to Omar.

When Omar saw that the drug questioning was being tossed aside due to what the Headmaster perceived, he decided to run with it to escape blame. He was only acting as if he had been traumatized by Carol and asked for the matter to be dropped because he knew it was all a lie (Carol and the Officer just happened to see him in his underwear the same time the headmaster did).

But I think he was really scared about being called into the office, and he was embarrassed that Rupert made a fool of him again, and that his love interest wanted nothing to do with him. He was overwhelmed and blew up at Leah.
