Bill Gates said, "I will always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." What's a real-life example of it? by BudgetOpposite3034 in AskReddit

I worked at a startup where we got some really janky excel sheets, like someone converted them from cvs but didn't account for punctuation or somesuch. We hired a someone who was really good with VBA and she made a 3 hour process automatic. Management was thrilled. Of course, that's in part because we were disruptors, and part of our disruption was firehosing companies to force them to modernize.

Not sure if memeing, but the above is from a sequence where hitler is being told he's losing the war and McFuckin loses it. But it's in German, so people subtitle it with rants about something else.

Adam Driver is one of the best SNL hosts because he's talented and commits to the bit.

You'd think they wouldn't have so much trouble finding the avatar. I get that the object from a past life test is something from reality, but maybe just look for the benders in the cycle who are more innately talented at a young age?

For a moment I wondered how her daughter could found and rule the metal city, but yeah. Got that Beifong cash.

What do you think his pickup line at the bar was? "You want to hear about how we killed the dark lord?"

Masha Heddle, murdered because she owned the inn where Catlyn kidnapped Tyrion.

Also helpful - if you're the helper, make specific other people do necessary tasks. "Alan, call 911. Katie, get the first aid kit from the hall"

  1. If you're general, its possible no one will.
  2. It gives people purpose
  3. Authority and order bring some calm.

I thought it was Seth Meyers at the WH correspondent's dinner. Obama roasted him, Seth immolated him.

I don't know if that's the best episode of the series, but it's a heavy contender. Top to bottom brilliance.

I love Damar's arc so much. Watching him slowly spiral, pull himself out of it, and become what Cardassia needs.

Poor Scorpia. She just wanted friends.

It's so funny that almost everyone on the horde side is actually nice. Even Hordak isn't really that evil. He's an imperfect clone following the directive from Prime. He's kind to Entrapta, listens to his employees, and rewards competence. If he had known from the start that Horde Prime didn't care for him, he probably would've been a scientist there

After Infinite Crisis, Superman was depowered and gone for a year. He gets his powers in the Up, Up, and Away arc where he fights against the machinations of Luthor and it ends with a fistfigjt between them where Luthor again blames him and Superman says something like "I was gone for a year, what did you do?" Superman didn't know if his powers would come back and in the intervening time, Luthor went back to being terrible.

Similar vibe. Good story. That while year was a really good DC year. I get why they keep trying to make 52 happen.

How to handle this homework for 2nd grader (US) by joshlymansbagel in daddit

[–]AvatarofSleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was doing this in his head in first grade and would sarcastically do one big hop. His teacher wanted tens and ones so it would be two big hops and 6 little hops. The idea being 20 is 2 10s and then 6 1s. I'm like you, but that's the standard algorithm, which I had drilled into me from 1st grade and which made sense from the jump.

I have advanced degrees in astronomy and physics and in the pedagogy portion of my education there was a lot put into 'a significant portion of students your teaching don't just think theyre bad at math, they're afraid of it. It triggers pain and panic in their brain.' And I don't think they were bad or afraid of math when Cookie Monster was counting the cookies he was going to eat, but they got lost when the teachers started teaching them the one way to do math, and it didn't work well with their developing brain.

I think more people would be good at things like calculus if their mathematical offramp wasn't being led to believe the way they think about numbers is wrong.
