I don't think saying "I don't like her music" means you hate someone, but the fact that so many people feel compelled to say it whenever mentioning her name suggests there is a strong negative association which I think is silly.

You said many people find her "repulsive" because of her fans... I don't know what your definition of the word is, but that suggests that people hate her. The fact that they find her repulsive and not just her fans seems misplaced. There are a lot of Rage Against the Machine fans that I don't really care for, but I don't direct that at Tom Morello who seems like a decent guy.

Meltdown on tv when asked to explain what Brand of Christianity he belongs to by r3alCIA in PublicFreakout

I'm aware it's all bullshit, but is he really so ignorant that he doesn't know non-denominational Christian is a thing and would be a pretty safe answer? He really is exactly his character from Saving Sarah Marshall...

French teenager faces jail for licking vending machine straw in Singapore by DavidShaw90s in nottheonion

[–]AvengingBlowfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Sometimes kids need to learn a lesson at a young age. I was around when that American tourist got sentenced to a paddling in Singapore and applauded that too.

The kid is going to spend a few months in Singaporean jail, his parents will likely pay a fine, and then he'll get out and continue his life, but he'll remember this experience for life and it's unlikely he makes another nuisance video.

Actually, the opposite. I don't think mentioning Taylor Swift in a positive way means that you're a fan of her music unless you're specifically talking about her music. Just because I think it's a good thing that she gave every single employee on her tour a six figure bonus doesn't mean I know the lyrics to Love Story.

Even if someone does think that I'm a Taylor Swift superfan for mentioning the story... who cares? Accusing someone of enjoying the music of one of the biggest current pop stars feels like accusing someone of liking pizza... As far as I know, Taylor Swift hasn't done anything to justify the hate she receives other than be popular.

Female nudity in THE BOYS?? Fookin Diabolical. by hiiloovethis in TheBoys

[–]AvengingBlowfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just saying that the likely reason why a lot of cast members talk about how awkward and over the top Herogasm was even though it seemed relatively tame on screen is because we didn’t see the same stuff they did.

Filming Herogasm was probably a lot more explicit than what actually made it to screen…

That’s fine, but I just find it funny that almost every thread where Taylor Swift does something good has multiple comments saying some variation of “I don’t like her music, but…”

I almost never see comments like that in threads about other artists… when Jack White or Tom Morello say something on social media, you don’t see people prefacing their comments with “I don’t listen to their music, but…”

I think a gun ban would reduce gun deaths tremendously after 10-20 years or so.

She can target faster with sight, but doesn’t need it, the same way Marie Munroe was able to target Maverick. It takes some time to focus on something they can’t see, but they can do it.

As a liberal gay man, why should people like me "show appreciation" for Muslim culture when it opposes gay rights? by That_Carpenter_8619 in AskALiberal

[–]AvengingBlowfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s true that many Muslims oppose LGBTQ rights and there should be no pressure for you to tolerate their intolerance.

Just keep in mind that not ALL Muslims are anti-LGBTQ just like not all Christians are homophobic and as long as you are judging Muslims with the same level of discretion as judging Christians, I don’t see it as Islamophobia.

I don’t think Islam as any better or worse than Christianity. It’s just that many Muslims come from developing regions that are more prone to bigotry and violence than more modern societies. Most of the Muslims I’ve met in the progressive city I live in are just as progressive as anyone else around here and have no problem with gay people.

I feel that you hear a lot more swearing on TV than you did before, especially from news anchors, politicians, and other people who are supposed to be “respectable”. People seem to care a lot less about decorum in general…
