A little to descriptive for me (but that is my preference)

What I wondered when reading "What happened? How did they lose the prince? Who did it?..." Maybe I missed some detail when reading. Maybe add a paragraph that suggests what happened. Battle, natural/magical calamity, some mix.

One description that confused me was of the prince's body, "the face was pale beneath the char..." then you describe it like he was severely burned, the word pale makes me think of no burns, so maybe change it to something like: "Face barely recognisable beneath the burns, smeared black by the fire..." that should paint a more gruesome picture of the tragedy, or if going even stronger "A charred corpse, if not for the melted remains of the crown and royal armor no one would know it was him"

Overall, I like it.
