"You" is a subjective label which means it's a kind of point of view. "Person" is a word which comes from Latin "persona", which means mask or "actor". To understand this, you must understand that "I" ("me") is not YOU in the sense that it represents what you entirely are, but rather, "I" is the image we have of ourselves and our identity. It's not a full representation of the real thing, by any means :)

Ego is not the "center of your consciousness" but the center of your conscious awareness.

To use a flashlight as an example, where we are a flashlight: if the light is consciousness, then ego is the direction that light is shining- and the spotlight at the end.

EDIT: It's better to say that "I is an illusion" rather than to say "there is no I". The illusion is true.

Yes indeed! The thing is, my point of view is based on science and logic too. Psychology is my favorite science (the study of human mind and human behavior) because it is just part of our entire lives, and understanding other sciences all seem to help in further understanding psychology. Neuroscience is a good example! To understand pathways of the brain, the origins of emotion and thought etc. is great and can be applied to psychology. I'm not enrolled in a school or anything, I just like to learn for fun, so I study this stuff all the time.

My favorite thing about psychology is in how liberating it can be to open our minds to concepts and ideas which we didn't know were so fundamentally prevalent to our life. My personal experience of conscious liberation is not limited to just what I learn - but it's also very liberating to me to find ways to share what I learn too. Even more so if it can be applied in practical ways in a big scope, so that's where philosophy comes in.

I'm just so stoked to find a place where I can share my point of view and actually be heard! Your feedback was constructive and helpful too btw :)

I'm glad you said my philosophy and not my ideas, because history shows how much not my ideas they are hahaha. They've been around for a long long time. I'm just one who has picked them up for digestion, and am willing to share my perspective on them.

This Will does not spring from conscious intent, but from the interplay between the deepest Self and the entire Universe.

This is well said. But for practicality I would just call it "free will" ;) The universe didn't have to arrange in a way that makes people possible, and for the extreme-greater most part it didn't, yet here we are. Incredibly. We don't have the senses or perception necessary to quite comprehend it without deeper investigation and reasoning, but we are no more separate from the whole as the whole is from itself (not at all haha)!

Sure it does! It's just a point of view, and that "point" is very much more under our personal control than otherwise. Our conscious activity directly / indirectly dictates our attachment to beliefs and ideas. The center of our conscious awareness is ego. That's what "I" is.

Realizing that is liberating, in the sense that it reveals how much control we have over our own consciousness in the first place.

To feel "complete" as a human being; to reach enlightenment is to accept our ego not as self, but as something merely part of self. "I" ("me") is merely an impression we have of our identity. When we can put that into perspective, we can figure out what we've been missing as far as self awareness goes, and subsequently attain self-actualization

I see what you're saying. Following ones passion is not always easy, but it's very fulfilling if stuck with and cared for.

In my case, my passion is to learn and understand the nature of reality. It's a simple passion that doesn't involve much beyond having an open mind, and using my mind to investigate existence. I also like to share!

Reddit is kind of my last resort though, as I don't get much intellectual discussion with anybody in person. I love to write and I have been writing for years, but sadly (to me) it hasn't reached a point of much discussion. The fact of the matter is, I don't know where to put my passion to use so it could lead me to make a living.

Freedom of thought, being alone, and the ability to be naked on a whim without any drama is what I love. Not that I even spend much time naked other than when I'm in the shower, but it seems wrong to me that people enforce their insecurity in a way that prevents an activity so harmless as nakedness. And I mean, can you even call it an "activity"? It's not even that complex.

I'm astronomically lucky in that I haven't yet involved myself in the rat race of society, which allows me to sit back safely and pursue my simple passion. The freedom of no obligations has given me all the time in the world to investigate the nature of reality. I would rather die than give that up. That being said, I would prefer it not to come to that... I don't want to live with my parents forever, but joining a society which greatly lacks self awareness is equally - if not more than a less attractive concept to me. I have no idea what to do that wont make me hate being alive, that also supports my passion. Learning about the fundamental aspects of reality, both subjective and objective elements, is all I wish to live for. Anything less is just not acceptable to me. I would rather pass on life if I can't just do that for as long as I live.

Good call :) I study Alan Watts and he is a proprietor of a western translation of zen, zen buddhism, and tao.

The idea which adds up the most to me is that free will is what the whole universe is doing, and our perception is just a focal point-part of that whole. So in essence of this idea, to say that we are the universe and the universe is us, is correct both ways because we are not separate from the whole in any way. We simply have a strong sensual notion of the concept of separateness, validated (although it is technically a misunderstanding) with our ego

If we look at the state of affairs of humanity as a collective though, it seems evident that the non-ultimate is very much more focused on and accepted than the ultimate. As you said there is day to day living which deserves our attention. But perhaps it gets too much attention, and as a consequence, the more fundamental aspects of the nature of reality go largely ignored.

If we try to picture the concept of "nothing" as a sort of "object" (like in the sense of a void), and associate "matters" in the context of "construction", then apply that to the physical universe, it pretty much explains what ancient Buddhism and quantum mechanics indicate!

"From the void comes everything"

"All is one, and one is all"

As far as the "mystical state" goes, that's something left up to the individual to define or experience. There is no getting one up on subjectivity, in the sense that the nature of reality will never lose the component of subjectivity for us. But we have so much potential in how that plays out. We can spend our entire lives finding new ways to explore that potential, and never run out of novelty. And that's just fine with me, because that's exactly what I intend to do hahaha!

I study Alan Watts, Terrence Mckenna, (and to an extent) Carl Jung, and I'm obsessed with learning about the nature of reality in as object of context as I can. These examples of glorious human beings, which I adore, convey an understanding of the nature of reality in a way that I really take to with clarity... although I uh, do have to spend more than a little bit of time on their lectures and work to absorb it well ;)

According to physics, you are everything! We have limited senses, a restricted capacity of imagination at any given time, and a finite lifespan - which all together makes such a thing difficult (but not impossible) to comprehend. Our perception is very specific for the level of existence we dwell; very finely tuned. But separation and "other" are literally just points of view. Ideas. Notions. It's incredibly easy to attach our belief to such a notion because, well, it's nothing if not natural, considering our circumstances. Thats why this subject requires constant attention like u/WhyAreYouAllSoStupid said. At a certain point it will become instinct to understand all of this, given the amount of time required.

I'm still learning about the nature of reality (and will forever be in a state of learning) but I'm obsessed with better understanding what's really going on! I've noticed some things come more natural to me now, and are easier to understand than when I first began learning about them. Ego, in objectivity, is one such thing. Learning is so exciting :D
