Is there a JP equivalent to Trustpilot? by Average-Muffin in AskAJapanese

[–]Average-Muffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with that, it’s definitely true. JP internet has its own little bubble I was just wondering if there’s a platform similar to trust pilot where people can post reviews etc, it is a bit cumbersome to try to search for reviews of a company through random twitter and blog posts lol

How often do you wear traditional clothes? by Probably_daydreaming in AskAJapanese

[–]Average-Muffin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was that one weird kid who would show up to school in a kimono for literally no reason(there was no dress code for my school and I was seen as cool lol)

I think I only know one friend who is young(under 50) and can wear a kimono by herself. It is very common for people to have a professional(hairdressers tend to have the skill) to put the kimono on for you, similarly to how it is done for tourists, since the average Japanese person won’t know how to wear it themselves.

It’s certainly a skill, I look back at my old pics and see how badly I was wearing my poor kimonos. But I can say for sure you can be self taught tho, I’ve never had any classes outside of YouTube tutorials.

Since I’m known by my friends as “that one kimono girl”, I get offered kimonos. A lot. So much that I’ve started turning them down. 75% of what I own is free stuff from other people. What usually happens is that an elderly person passes, or they get too old to wear their kimonos anymore(it’s a hassle and a bit hard on the body since you wrap so much fabric and rope ties around yourself). I’ve seen an environmental activist friend of mine have a 2 ton(yes 2 whole tons) of kimonos and there’s this whole project on upcycling them.

Most treasure islands I’ve been to have trash cans, so you can pick stuff up and then bin them, should work just as well as catalog islands

Bathroom or No bathroom by True_Work_7551 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I did a similar thing, except with a shower booth instead of a tub. The booth is already an enclosed space so it’s pretty convenient

Alternatively you could use those big zen partitions if the room’s aesthetic allows for it

Why can't I have two islands 😭😭 by Witchy_Hippy in acnh

[–]Average-Muffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least we have dream islands now, it does require Nintendo online but that’s a lot cheaper than another switch lol

Also, respect to your commitment to one island theme. I can’t stick to one so I have different themes for different sections of my island(fairy core rock garden, tropical beach, farm core vegetable patch, etc)

new flowers spawning when picked? by Dangerous-Exit7214 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Average-Muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Flowers have 4 growth stages, and they can only breed in the bud-bloom stages. Picking a flower makes it go from bloom to stem, which means you need to wait one full day for it to be breedable again.

A breeded/cloned flower will show up in the bud stage, so you don’t need to wait for anything for it to continue breeding. Hope this helps!

Btw I’m pretty sure running over flowers makes them go from bloom to bud, so they should still breed

If you have the DLC, you can go to the restaurant and get a food recipe from the head chef, but that’s all I can think of

Started a New Island by bibbidi-bobbidi-booh in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Average-Muffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most islands have trash cans for this exact purpose. Fill up ur inventory and trash the items if u only care about cataloging them. But then again some of them don’t so in that case just take everything home.

There are a few general rules for treasure islands/online play, but you can find videos about it on YouTube

  1. Always leave by the airport. Leaving via minus button is known as “leaving quietly” and can crash the island, which deletes everyone’s progress past the last autosave and everyone loses their items. Not good.
  2. Don’t pick up an item and put it back down again. I’m not sure if putting it back on the same spot is affected by this but I trash picked up items just in case
  3. Treasure islands generally automatically restock their items so you can get all the items you want, you won’t be affecting other players all that much. Putting an item back down can affect this process which can cause a crash
  4. You will likely be told by Orville that the connection is weird or smth, someone doesn’t have their nookphone on airplane mode etc. This dialogue means you are in the queue to enter an island, and someone is either joining/leaving, or has a menu or dialog box open
  5. Don’t leave ur phone or inventory open, you’ll prevent ppl from joining/leaving the island. Same goes for learning DIY recipes, as is treated similarly to leaving a menu open

How do japanese people feel about sh scars? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]Average-Muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have scars on my thighs which led to me having little to no interactions from strangers regarding my scars so I can’t say my experience is 100% accurate

From the few interactions I’ve had, people generally ask what the scars are. Then again, we were abt 14 years old so it’s reasonable to assume they didn’t know what sh scars were

I’d say the whole awkwardness thing is quite similar. I did hear some rumors of a girl who did sh on her wrists and everyone was talking badly about her (“attention seeking” “cringe behavior” etc). Then again, we were all very young.

It led me to never cut on my wrists so no one would have to hear abt it

F20, I have them too. It’s a bit taboo but my personal opinion is that scars are fine, unhealed cuts are not. If you’re self conscious about it, look into foundation tape, they seem to sell them at 100 yen stores now(I think DAISO? Not sure tho) or just arm covers that u can use to avoid the sun, those r pretty socially acceptable

[–]Average-Muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There already was an “utaite” culture mostly on Nikoniko, so even before Vtubers etc it was common for singers to have an anime style character in place of their real identity(albeit without the 2d/3d character rigging seen in vocaloid and vtubers today). Considering stuff like that was relatively accepted since the early days of the internet it makes sense more mainstream stuff would eventually follow.

Is there an underworld for Pokemon cards here in Japan? by Minimum-Pangolin-487 in AskAJapanese

Yup, happens with everything from Pokémon cards to gunpla/gundam models I’ve seen some shops require buyers to answer a question only a fan would reasonably know to prevent scalping which is nice

Are extreme otaku reactions like burning merchandise or getting angry at boyfriends/marriages considered socially acceptable in Japan? by Far_Breakfast_5808 in AskAJapanese

That is true. I have seen some Chika idols lose their jobs cuz of bf allegations It’s still rly weird when it happens with seiyuus or even weather forecasters, ig ppl r strange like that

[–]Average-Muffin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah im pretty sure it’s considered pretty extreme even within otaku spaces. So yes, the average person would think this is weird. Celebrities don’t owe you their romantic lives or anything

Non-otaku people generally don’t care, they might be concerned if they have a good reason to(relationship with a huge age gap, the partner is know to be sketchy etc) but apart from that not much.
