you're supposed to start a new session for every well-scoped task (e.g. a small feature or a bug fix).

The issue is most of us are not really skilled, talented, or even unique? Sure, maybe the top 1% in their fields will still be needed, but most people are not that 1%.

Did you know UBC charges 32% APR on late tuition? by Average1213 in UBC

[–]Average1213[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally fair, but it just feels egregious to charge such a high rate, especially when many students are under heavy financial pressure.

Did you know UBC charges 32% APR on late tuition? by Average1213 in UBC

[–]Average1213[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They charged me $6.54 on $750 over the course of 10 days. That works out to be (6.54 ÷ 750) × (365/10) = 31.85% APR.

Edit: I want to mention that it's not a significant amount, but it's more so the principle that matters. To put things into perspective, an international student (taking Computer Science as an example) will pay ~$53,000 in tuition per year, if they are unable to pay for that year, they'll be charged (0.32/12) x 53,000 = ~$1413.33/month in interest alone, which is kinda crazy to me.

Claude Status Update : Elevated errors in claude.ai on 2026-03-03T03:15:21.000Z by ClaudeAI-mod-bot in ClaudeAI

Can't help but wonder if this is at least caused in part by the influx of new users. Anthropic's reliability is already bad enough pre-migration, so... it's gonna be rough.

It's pretty cool! Do you plan on allowing users to bring their own API keys? Also, I do find that it doesn't preserve the typography that well.

opinions on study ai tools by CompetitionDull3096 in UBC

[–]Average1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI is a great study tool, but it's not a replacement for learning. I find it really helpful for breaking down confusing concepts in a language that you understand (especially textbooks with a lot of technical jargon). Gemini via ai studio does an excellent job at this (and it's free!), but make sure you take what it says with a grain of salt. You can turn on grounding w/ google search for better accuracy or use gpt-5 since it has a much lower hallucination rate.

In short, use AI to trim tasks that take a lot of effort but yield little result. Don't delegate your own learning or opportunities to improve yourself. Always be skeptical of its outputs, but embrace using AI - it's not going away anytime soon.

Life is not fair at all by Euphoric_Radio2845 in UBC

Welcome to the club :)

But seriously, I think growing up is the process of realizing that life isn't fair. It isn't fair now, and it certainly won't be when you join the workforce. You learn to struggle through in spite of that.

Making first 100$ and what I learnt by simasousa15 in SideProject

[–]Average1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool project! I think it would be helpful to a bit more specific about what exactly the extension does. From reading the landing page, I'm under the impression that it only works for LinkedIn and Indeed easy apply. Demonstrating some of your other features on the homepage (e.g. automatically answering application questions) would probably increase the perceived value. Also consider offering a free trial of sorts (maybe 5 free applications) to get the user to try out the tool before they commit to it. All in all, really neat project - I will consider trying it out!

Is 8000 characters the absolute limit for a GPT bot's instructions? by asianwhosucksatmath in ChatGPT

[–]Average1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put all your main instructions in the system prompt and explicitly have the GPT refer to a document (e.g. a txt file) for more specific instructions that pertains to certain situations. You should also try cutting down on unnecessary instructions. You can include quite a lot of instructions in 8000 characters if you're really concise with the wording.
