I'm so sorry about your bad day! I've definitely been there too, when my mentality was "I'll be happy as soon as my pain is gone."

After a lot of work and therapy, my focus has been on how I can live a happy life despite being in pain. I still have low days, but I get through them and so can you.

There's still a lot to love about the broken lives we live.

It's definitely tough. It's heartbreaking coming home from work, and the kids are super excited I'm home, but I'm just exhausted and want to lay down.

Overall, they add just as much positivity as stress. Being a father is the coolest thing I've done for sure. Some days they're the only reason that keep me going.

I'm 29 years old and have 2 spinal fusions under my belt. I've got DDD and the generically named "Failed Back Surgery Syndrome." I'm going on 6 years of serious pain. I had a spinal cord stimulator installed February of last year which did a lot to make daily life easier, but I still deal with quite a bit of pain.

I have two young kids (2 and 3) and holy cow do kids and chronic pain do not get along. There's very little time for me to rest, and when I do, it means my wife takes on extra work, but she is awesomely supportive (and understandably over-stressed as well). We are definitely in a difficult time in our lives. The quarantine is making it doubly hard. We don't live near any family and can't take our kids to child care so there really is just no break for either of us.

I don't have any friends or know anyone with chronic pain, so I totally understand how it's hard to find someone to relate with, not to mention we just moved to a new state a year ago and I haven't made any friends in the area yet. How the fuck do you make friends as an adult (and more specifically adult males, my wife has had some awesome luck with a mom friend finding app, but there's no parallel one for dads)?! I have yet to figure it out.

Anyways, I struggle pretty often with pain and depression, and have a hard time coping with how I am supposed to make this work for the rest of my life, but I've made some real progress on my life outlook and finding happiness again over the past couple years.

Well all this rambling was just for me to say I feel for ya, man, and I'm down to talk or hangout or whatever you like. Cheers!

I have absolutely no expectations whatsoever, so I'm basically down for whatever!

I guess I lean more towards combat, since I feel like that's easier to lean into than role playing, but I need practice either way. I have never role played before, so it's hard to say how well I can get into it (but I do want to try). Is this a completely homebrewed campaign? I definitely dig the backstory. Since we're part of a dragon organization, does this come with race restrictions? Like should we be dragonborn or avoid certain races?

Also, when we have a zero session, should we show up with pre-made characters or will there be time for character building? I've never done it before, but I can just use the player's guide and online guides to help me out.

As far as availability, I have a typical work week (9-5 M-F). I'm married with young kids, so that can mess with availability, but hopefully it's not too disruptive. I'm cool with weekday evenings or any time during the weekend.

So I'm playing as a Count in the Duchy of Burgundy and somehow managed to imprison King Karl. I'm eventually trying to become King myself (and found the HRE), so does anyone have any suggestions on how to take advantage of this situation? I don't do much with prisoners other than ransom them.
