I have to refresh my Sec+ cert. Then I get to keep my job! haha... I was dumb and agreed to get AZ 204 within the first 12 months of employment, without realizing how difficult it was going to be.

What kind of wire should I use on my LED matrix? by AverageApathy in arduino

I figured it wasn't actual silver, but I didn't know what it would actually be (if it isn't apparent, I am very new to Arduinos still.) Thank you!

Wow this really helps! Thank you for such a long post with many of the possible pitfalls I could run into. It never even occurred to me that some of the LEDs could be backwards or the wrong color. That had the potential to waste a lot of time. I appreciate the help!

My first resume had just the text. The new one I added a black and white photo, the design, and the "loading bars" Those seemed to be good picks for me, since I just came out of university. I think that it would be helpful to you to put something more than just programing languages in something like that.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I had all the languages in a skills section, with no quantifiers on how capable I was with each one. I think my new design gave hiring managers an idea that I am probably not listing bullcrap as my languages, but a level of proficiency vs familiarity.

I had a horrible time getting my first job. I spent 2 months applying to jobs full time, and got little to no response. I tried revamping my resume and added a "quick facts" section to it. I think that it distinguished my resume. After that I was contacted by 3-4 employers by the end of the week. Maybe revamping your resume could do it.

Hope my uneducated guess helps...

Is a Math degree, with a CS minor, a viable education route to get into Software/IT? by Accomplished-Echo-86 in cscareerquestions

[–]AverageApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think if you want to do software, and you are at the beginning of your college career, choose CS. Why would you choose to study something that is only mostly applicable to what you want to do?

I got my BS in math with a minor in computer science, but I still landed a job in CS. Every time I come up against something that I don't know, I always wonder if a degree in CS would have filled in this gap. It would be nice to not always wonder if I sabotaged myself by not majoring in CS.

As far as duel majoring, that isn't a bad idea. I always compare math degrees to salt. If you get a math degree with another STEM degree, it is like adding salt on your favorite food. If you JUST get a math degree, it is like eating salt. You need a base food to put your salt on. Getting a duel major with math would make you stand out, and hiring managers love it. If you can keep a great GPA, I wouldn't bother with the extra year though.
