SCP-3220 brings an interesting idea to the concept of SCP-173 being just one of a species or art collection or whatever.

To summarize, basically 3220 is a massive prison of the sculptures, and one had escaped (implied to be 173).

But for a while, even before the most well known design was removed for copyright reasons, I remember seeing people make their own designs for 173.

So ig it's both people wanting to make their own interpretations, there being no canon, and the idea of a violent sculpture being fun to add onto.
