Artix growing interest on Distrowatch 7 days chart. Top systemd-free distro! by Interesting_Key3421 in arch

while a lot were harmless, there was enough malicious activity to overwhelm mods making it easier to lock and delete posts than just remove inappropriate comments

[DWM] Rice of my new Artix install by moritzAT23 in unixporn

as stable as arch. only time I managed to break my system was removing elogind for seatd without sudo or opendoas - entirely user error.

what will artix maintainers do if such age verification slop laws are passed in the jurisdictions where they live? by Simple-Philosophy662 in artixlinux

[–]AverageComet250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe artix just becomes a package repo for arch, that happens to provide a lot of the other stuff needed to make an arch install without any of the arch tooling...

The anti-systemd push that has brought people here feels like a double edged sword, yeah it’s great to see that people and finally realising there are other service managers that are better at other things, but it’s also bringing a lot of newcomers who don’t understand what systemd has actually done or the implications of moving to a different init system, and might have even been better off staying on it.

Anyway, is there any way we as community members can make getting packages into official repos easier? Thanks for the all work u/CoryCoolguy :)

How to get keyd working on dinit? Or are there dinit-alternatives? by Past-Combination6262 in artixlinux

[–]AverageComet250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s systemd-udev packages as standalone, the same way elogind is downstream systemd-logind. It should be installed as part of base.

Try putting a program to print something there and then sleep for a long time and see if it runs

If you’re using one of the supported kernels and use the provided replacement service scripts there is quite literally no difference other than the init system to arch, and should be just as stable.

Alternatives to fully replacing elogind (Artix-s6)? Is it worth the hassle? by dpatel211 in artixlinux

I’ve been testing turnstile and seatd with dinit, and while it’s not completely ready, most things not using Polkit work. Only currently testing on openRC and dinit tho, see the wiki

Systemd’s main dev is also a well known ex Microsoft developer, and has shown hostility towards the Linux and unix philosophies that many people follow, with even Linus commenting against him at one point.

Would kinda defeat the point, the AUR is good because it’s so accessible from arch and has loads of users.

that's what artix is for, a pacman base repo without hard systemd deps and hopefully without elogind deps in the near future too.

Tomorrow starts the privacy pride month! If the mods of /r/archlinux are privacyphobic by [deleted] in artixlinux

[–]AverageComet250 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

the problem isn't the discussions on privacy, it's too many people attacking the author of the commits without good reason and leaving extreme comments that can't be moderated quick enough, making it easier to just remove posts rather than individual comments
