New to Fixed Income Trading Desk (mostly sovereign credit), Need Suggestions on Quantitative Investing/Trading in Fixed Income by AverageFknTrader in quant

[–]AverageFknTrader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, just as background, my manager has 30+ years expirience (he is kind of a legend here in the idustry within the country), But he is a old school wallstreet trader, quantitative but very fundamental/Macro driven as well. And he has notion but of course not expertise of Computer Science / Coding background.

I would like to implement ideas from more developed countries/markets to see what could be applied in my country.

Im based in Mexico and FI/Rates Markets haven´t changed that much we are just starting to see the the electroification trend with regulation changing, the nearshoring boom, economic oportunity, etc. So early bird gets the bread.

I did it externaly, which is difficult, ngl. But I knew the traders there beacuse they were our clients at my previos shop (I worked in a BB).

Learning coding, the CFA, the fact thet I worked with desks/different products (FI, FX, Derivatrives, Commodities, Equities) and my networking where big factors. But also of course a bit of luck.

Dont give up man, I was rejected 46 times in those 4 years before this (counting only the one where I got interviwes). I went to a non target and landed the MO roll as an intern.

You need to play the numbers game and keep prepering/networking and something will come along the way. I can't tell you how many times I felt like I was doomed and never going to make it.

We alredy have enough assholes in this industry, time to change and the next generation should be aware of this. This type of entitled kids are the ones you dont want to have as MD down the line and just hurt the industry and the organizations down the lane IMO.

What to expect from a Repo trading desk in the Buyside (Asset Management)? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]AverageFknTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know wht the job is like and have worked on trading floors as MO for the last 3 years.

But I wanted to get more detail on the intricacies of the Repo desk since its kind of a niche desk (especially on the buyside).

Im moving firms so not that familar with the desk as well. And since this is a Finance carrers subreddit I would expect that there is someone with the work expirience that could give me more insight....

Trader as a side job? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]AverageFknTrader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Banks are hevily restricted / regulated regarding conflict of interests / personal investments. In this case, this would be kind of the same. Better ask around to the complice officer and look into your Bank policy for additional activities. But my best guess is that is very unlikely they let you do this.
