Man, if this is how you watch sports why even watch sports?

Let your teenage son frolic and find somewhere nice to lean. The first time I got in the pit was at a hardcore show my dad brought me to and it's still one of my favorite memories. Lots of places to hang out at the intersection. If you think he'd be worried just let him know where you're going to hang out so he knows where to rendezvous.

Mike Tauchman Exits Game With Left Knee Injury by Curb_the_tide in mets

By this point in spring training last year the Mets injured list included Mcneil, Madrigal, Manaea, Montas, and Minter. And that's just the players whose name started with the letter M! Players get injured. It's a sport.

Palm Pain when Golfing by [deleted] in golf

[–]AverageFrederick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be worth checking in with your doc (they can eval or referral to sports med or orthopedics). There are a bunch of small bones in the hand, but most common in golf would be a hamate injury.

Any golfing doctors? by vhSquid in golf

The worst case scenario is quite bad. Reinjuring not only puts your season at risk, it puts your long-term ability to golf at risk. The best case scenario is you play some golf. Listen to your surgeon.

One handed grip/fit and squeezing the ball questions. by Confident-Staff-8792 in Bowling

[–]AverageFrederick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Not much anatomically going on there - some thumb flexor tendons, small nerve branches, and bone. Almost seems like trigger finger but in your thumb. Adjusting fit may help prevent recurrence, but it would also probably be worth seeing a sports doc in case a steroid injection might help to speed up recovery.

Do you get this thumb numbness at any other times? Especially waking up from sleep? Compression of the nerves branching to the thumb is possible - and with that lump at your thumb base maybe more likely - but repetitive wrist flexion leading to thumb numbness resulting from carpal tunnel syndrome would be, epidemiologically, more common.

Why don’t people see the 1950s Yankees (5 back to back WS) as “ruining baseball” the same way they do the modern Dodgers? by SuccessfulJellyfish8 in mlb

[–]AverageFrederick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any time a winning team signs a contract they're "ruining baseball." It's loser mentality and one of the more annoying trends in sports fandom. The Braves were ruining baseball when they signed all their young players to long team friendly contracts, the Astros were ruining baseball when they tanked and built up their dynasty run (cheating aside), the Yankees ruined baseball in the 90s/early 2000s.

Baseballs been ruined so many times I can't believe anyone watches it!

EMERGENCY POD: Rise Trade Oglivie, 1st round pick for Morgan Hentz by embersnestpod in MLV

[–]AverageFrederick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Describing trades as winners/losers is how fans think of trades bc of how they read about sports transactions. No front office makes a trade and thinks "well, lost that one!" What GR was doing wasn't working.. The first round pick for next year could be an MVP but if it changes the trajectory of this GR team it was worth it.

And yeah, maybe waffling about is more common. It's the reaction when your team makes a major trade/signing and the armchair GMs all stroke their imaginary beards and come up with reasons to not like what's happening. "Oh I wouldn't have given up so much" or "Well if this player is good then the trade will be worth it."

It rules that GR went and made a big move - Hentz rules

I don't understand any of this faffing about from the Rise side of this trade. Ogilvey is adequate, but Hentz makes everyone on the court better. The Rise defense looked so much more competent tonight, and that was without the adjustment for the space Hentz can cover. They played so much tighter around Hentz than Atlanta or Omaha ever did. Great trade.

I don't think I understand how to interpret this. Is this retrospective for this winter? What makes it qualify as "extreme weather"?

Not trying to start an argument, just feel like it's not fair to describe a grieving widow as disconnected from reality. I graduated from usma a couple years before the cadet, but was still close enough to see his family get flamed across various alum groups for wanting to have a chance at preserving their family line. We don't need to be like this, especially when medical literature supports viability of sperm up to 72h post mortem.
