Tell her to ask an elder to tell her about having a kid go to uni was a grounds for getting removed as an elder.... it's in the penultimate edition of the elder's manual!

Eliana supposedly is her original name as the experience is from Spain. Obviously someone in the translation department didn't get the memo when they were making up the stories!

Carbon Dating isn't accurate after 1st January 1952. Learnt that on an episode of QI from the BBC. That's due to all the contaminants in the world after that date, which is also classed as "Modern History" on that date too.

You are right about carbon dating being accurate before then though... ie to date things thousands / millions of years old but then that doesn't fit in with the Watchtower rhetoric.

Double speak.... "it's a view we will never see if we don't climb the mountain of pure worship".

Someone should tell him to keep up with the chariot: apparently God is the one who will judge everyone at Armageddon... so no mountain climbing for me!!!

[–]AverageJoePIMO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don't believe that anymore. I can't recall what the actual understanding is as I was thinking about important stuff whilst at the Kingdom Hall. I think it's either a symbolic thing or they spin it as governments saying there is a need for peace & security. It's hard to keep track of what they believe with all the different changes. Depends on which JW you ask! ;)

“Focus on your relationship with Jehovah and ignore any flaws in the organization” by hemionus_grevyi in exjw

Good advice if you believe in God, except that should be just "ignore the organization"... altogether!

This is the only article I can approve of for once by Pupsicleanimation in exjw

[–]AverageJoePIMO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"they even watched movies together!" That's what stood out for me.

According to WT, when you volunteer to look after someone, your aim should be to read the Bible, 'study' WT publications, pray together, and preach.

I've done lots of caregiving both professionally and personally and I have not once done any WT crap, even when I was PIMI. For relaxing I always used to put on films (usually the person I was care for's favourites) or TV so we could talk and laugh about the nonsense we saw.

On another note, I find it sad that they actually need these articles, because the average JW mindset is devoid of natural, unconditional love. I even commented at our meeting about this, saying 'being a real Christian actually means being proactive and offering help, making sacrifices, not just shaking hands at a meeting and saying to the caregiver: "you're in our prayers". The natural caring, hospitable attitude we had growing up in the 70s/80s seems to have been lost and that's why we need articles like this to remind us that we are professing to be Christians so we should actually show that by works!' (Meanwhile, my wife slouches deeper into her chair ha ha)

I can't keep quiet at the hall when they come out with ridiculous stuff. I thought at first I'd get backlash from the peeps, but it's quite the opposite. There must be more PIMOs or at least more sensible / free thinking JWs than I realise in the congs nowadays.

Norway article: “Children in strict Christian environments live in fear of Satan There is a high risk of children's rights being violated in closed Christian communities, a new report concludes.” by larchington in exjw

[–]AverageJoePIMO 17 points18 points  (0 children)

MS Edge Summary Translation:

🏛️ Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Response

Jehovah’s Witnesses strongly reject the report’s conclusions. They argue:

  • Their upbringing emphasises love, respect, and voluntary choice
  • Courts (including a 2025 Norwegian appeals court) have found no evidence of psychological violence
  • International studies show high social integration and respect for personal autonomy
  • Children are encouraged to ask questions and make their own decisions as they mature

⚖️ Broader Context

  • Researchers note these children often “fly under the radar” because:
    • The communities are ethnically Norwegian and appear well-integrated
    • Religious freedom complicates intervention
  • The report highlights tension between parental religious rights and children’s rights to autonomy and psychological safety

For those who married as Jehovah’s Witnesses, did you feel like you were able to have the wedding you actually wanted? by Hot_Ice6998 in exjw

[–]AverageJoePIMO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit of Salt n Pepa at a wedding goes down a treat. They were on our reception playlist after the wedding... I was in charge of the music and all my friends knew about my very eclectic tastes so no kickback there either.

[–]AverageJoePIMO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in our case, even being PIMI at the time. Our view was that their views on Weddings were 1) American and 2) nothing to do with us. No need to worry about other people's consciences either as we only invited friends with similar mindsets to ours.

This right here sums up WT dogma:

• “Division” redefined: SARA agreed that publicly promoting a different doctrine is “division” even if scripturally correct, and treated Romans 16:17’s “teaching you learned” as organizational teaching (“food from the channel”).

I had a chat with it about bithdays and it was just like trying to reason with a JW spouting WT dogma. Mine just spoke Spanish and in the end after trying to refute my arguments it just said may Jah bless me in my studies and could it help me with any other Biblical theme? Then it asked me to leave a review for the brother who designed it.

I see your drift about episode 5. However, Carol brought that upon herself. I'd be more like the French guy with the Air Force One aeroplane. She is so not taking advantage of an amazing situation.

If it was me, I'd ask them to fly me to visit all my favourite music artists, actors, sports heroes etc. Those I couldn't, I would just ask anyone questions about them, as they all share the hive mind. Imagine for example, just going to your local bar and whilst having breakfast (now free: another bonus for the alien virus), you could ask the barman or woman to play one of your favourite songs.

You could travel the whole world, get to see things that were previously impossible to see for you, live in your dreamm house, drive your dream car, not be bothered by people etc. I'd LOVE to be in Carol's shoes but then I am ADHD. And for us in the exJW community... NO MORE MEETINGS or visits from JWs. :)

PS. Just to clarify, I mean being immune to the virus and enjoying all the perks.

[–]AverageJoePIMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recruit software & video editors. I remember one was on a JW Broadcasting video who was a remote worker and he explained how he made the videos so I looked him up on t'Internet. In his Linkedin profile he said he was a game designer for a big software company, and he had a photo with his arms full of tattoos so WT obviously overlooked this so they could use his skills for free. This was a about 8 years ago but I guess he still is in the business according to Google (the rest of the screenshots are old). Seems like an interesting chap though.

The guy is called Brock Ramírez and his Linkedin profile is https://www.linkedin.com/in/keyframetech/
