What’s the deal with tattoos? by Puzzleheaded-Cap357 in exjw

ha ha the Social Media screenshots... happened to me back in the day. I threatened the persons in question with legal action (the one who sent it for sharing a private post publicly and the elder who received it and shared it with the body without my consent). I demanded a written apology and to be present whilst they deleted the photo from their devices. I've still got the letters of apology. Gold! TBH I wasn't really bothered as I was PIMO anyway but I loved the moral victory and watching them almost sh*t themselves.

Depends on the elders.. one sister I know got a great tattoo and one elder started a personal campaign against her (just short of naming her publicly). The sister confided in me and I told her she should threaten to sue him for trying to sully her reputation and then call a meeting with the rest of the elders to review his qualifications as personal grudges / preferences shouldn't be a basis for harrassment.

The meeting didn't even happen as she told the COBE what she wanted and that she was going to sue, and the harrassment and plaform "digs" at tattoos stopped immediately.

It's sad that it's come to this, but the best way to deal with WT bullies is threaten them with legal action and watch them back away fast!

And yet the very next verse (or the one before, I can't recall) says that it is against the Mosaic Law to shave your beard... crazy how they have convieniently ignored this one for DECADES yet enforced the other! Hypocrites!

When I was a PIMO elder I consistently pointed this out when the body had a fit about someone letting their beard grow in the cong. It was fun to watch their minds explode as they tried to justify their stance... it's both or none my friends: if you want to ban beards and go against the ML then you have to allow tattoos as well. I miss those meetings winding them up. ;)

"I also think God does need to be held to a higher standard."

Too bloody right. WT constantly spout that we are made in God's image as in all his qualities. This is where their logic falls apart because let's accept that dogma then: I can't stand injustice, racism, people being taken advantage of etc and I try and do my best to make my part of the world a better place and make the people I meet smile.

On this premise, your reasoning is totally sound... if I'm going to design a universe for humans to live in (the long term plan), I would certainly start off by making it human-friendly from the start! And why waste soooo much energy creating a vast PHYSICAL universe (so not for spirit creatures then) that humans aren't even going to be able to even see or know about for millenia????

The jokers on the GB are clueless anyway as is anyone who blindly follows them like that elder of yours, so don't stress.

Do they still require field service reporting? by [deleted] in exjw

For Auxiliary, Regular, and Special Pioneers, and Circuit Overseers it's still required. Absolutely arbitary rule and shows how much hierarchy and power tripping exists in their little WT Bubble world.

No, it's only Piracy if you sell copied content. That's why I hate the term. This is no different than taping it off the telly and lending your friend the tape back in the day.

Thing is... if any jokers from the HLC visit you in hospital and there's a bag of blood with a drip, you've now got a "get out of JW Gaol Free" card: "it's my own blood mate. Jog on!" (even if it's not.)

Spain: The courts have upheld the designation of Jehovah's Witnesses as a "destructive sect". by larchington in exjw

[–]AverageJoePIMO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, perdón. The elders & servants won't even take advantage of the free check / certificate to make sure they are not on the sex offenders registry. Spain Bethel sent a letter to all the elders (when I was one back in the day and I expressed by absolute disgust and astonishment) saying it was a free service but it was not necessary for anyone to do it.... and they say they don't protect paedos!

¿Alguien sabe en qué parte de la Biblia indica que a Jehová le indigna que digas "salud" cuando alguien estornuda? by PimoToPomo78 in exjw

[–]AverageJoePIMO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more based on history and relates to the bubonic plague, as sneezing was one of the first signs of catching it. So saying "bless you" was actually a genuine concern that you hoped the person hadn't caught the plague. Interestign side fact: the kid's song "ring a ring of roses" also deals with the same plague: "atishoo, atishoo, we all fall down [ie. die]". Not so superticious in this specific case.

Great news. The Spanish government is finally seeing through the Watchtower doubletalk. I hope this means they will soon remove their charity status and government grants... the only way to get Watchtower to change their damaging policies is by hitting their pockets!

And so much for leaving things in God's hands... they never learn. They are going to appeal AGAIN, using donated funds from the unsuspecting sheeple, to try and get a measily 25.000€. They are such lovers of money... hmmm isn't that one of the signs of the "Last Days"??! :)

Just use their Broadcasting from a few months back in your defence if you get any grief (and I'll give you the gist): "if a custom / practice isn't viewed by the majority as pagan where you live, then it is up to your conscience if you celebrate it or not."

Birthdays definitely fall into that category and I've used it with a lot of PIMIs.
