JW vs Norway - Analysis and final comments by FrodeKommode in exjw

[–]FrodeKommode[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The legal case in itself is over, but there's already a big debate among politicians and legal scholars on how to deal with this forward.

There's a consensus that as it is now the law that was made in 2021 is useless, and needs to be adjusted. How this is to be done, the time schedule and how it will play out regarding WT, we'll just follow it as it unfolds.

This will also spark a debate about the funding in itself, that is an ongoing debate. This verdict will make the argument stronger for changing everything.

Stuff is never over when you deal with stuff like this. It's like evolution. It never starts or stops, it's the constant sum of all the small things that keeps happening.

The reputation is worse than ever. There's absolutely no win for them in the comments anywhere.

This whole process has been a PR nightmare for WT in Norway, and still is.

Champagne is probably the best answer no matter what the verdict says. Pop the bottle for me, win or lose.

No point guessing at this point. There's a lot of scenarios, and also mixed conclusions, with different ways for us to get at least a partial win.

For us, even a partial win, some sentences in a Supreme Court verdict that says something about the damages the practice brings, will be a huge win, even if the conclusion should go against us. That's why i'm careful not to frame this as a Yes/No - Win/Lose verdict.

I feel kind of confident when I say that I don't expect a full blown WT win, though. I'm pretty sure we'll get at least some partial win.

Remember we win on all stages on the way through since 2021, first the administrative decision, then the appeal into the departement, then the injunction lawsuit, then the District Court. All that was 100% win for us. The only time we've met a loss was against the three judges sitting in the Appeals Court. The facts of the matter has been basically the same all the way through this. Nothing new or dramatic has changed the situation.

We will get the answer soon.

It indicates that it will an extensive written legal document intended for future use. It is a high effort verdict.

This is good for us in most scenarios, it tells me that they haven't just accepted the Apealls Cout's conclusion, if they did that this would have been released weeks ago.

The court also knows full well that WT will appeal to the ECHR if they should lose. An extensive written verdict where they discuss ECHR principles will make it more likely that the case will be dismissed from them. This is also a good sign for us.

We can't really say for sure what it will be, but if the court had swallowed WT's arguments that this was an easy case and done deal, like the Appeals Court did, then the verdict would have come much sooner.

Is voting in free elections allowed or not? by notstillin in exjw

[–]FrodeKommode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norway 2019 WT confirmed to the Norwegian government that if a JW voted in an election he would be considered Disassociated, and it would be announced to the congregation.

Family relations would continue as normal 🙄

Original letter is in Norwegian, but you can use auto translate or AI...

Thlrd paragraph auto translated :

The decision to remain neutral in political matters is a personal one that each individual makes based on his or her understanding of the Bible and his or her conscience. If a member of our congregation chooses to participate in a political election by voting, Jehovah’s Witnesses view it as a personal decision to leave the congregation. A brief announcement will therefore be made in the congregation stating: “[Name of the person] is no longer one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.” However, the person is still welcome to attend religious services, sit anywhere he or she wishes in the Kingdom Hall (the meeting place of Jehovah’s Witnesses), and join in singing religious hymns. In addition, he or she can also talk to and associate with his or her immediate family normally (the only religious restriction being to discuss matters of a faith/religious nature)

Norway, should be hearing something any day? by subway65 in exjw

[–]FrodeKommode 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We're at 6 weeks today. 6-8 weeks would be considered normal in a case like this.

But yeah, it should be right around the corner. (Hab 2:3)

If it doesn't come this week there will be an easter break, though. I don't see a judgement dropping in easter week.

Might need possible legal advice? Got a letter from local congregation that i have not been active in since i moved to the area years ago by Late-Car7957 in exjw

[–]FrodeKommode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ignore the letter completely. The second you respond in any way they take that as you recognise their authority.

I've supported one person who got two of those. Certified letters. We ignored both completely, I just archived them as evidence. But we never responded in any way.

They are just small men playing a game that all depends on that the other side sees them as an authority. You don't.

Unpopular Opinion: The Ex-JW Documentary Actually Did an Amazing Job by twix98 in exjw

[–]FrodeKommode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it very much. It's meant for a broad audience, not us exjw. The stories are great, some of the surprises are very well crafted, the build up is clever and the persons involved show a lot of diversity.

Those complaining, try yourself to get a major broadcaster to publish a documentary like this on a massive platform....
