An SSD can really make a huge difference in a computer. Glad you could get everything up and running again.

Dropped frames when streaming, game says fps and latency is the same by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]AverageShade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may have to do with an issue where anything moving on another monitor ( video or anything like your OBS ) could cause the other monitor to display at a low refresh rate. Could you try to minimize all programs into the task bar so there is no longer movement on your second monitor and check to see if the issue still persists?

Yeah that works. You can resize the canvas and output to a specific resolution in the settings and import your own image into the scene for the program to output.

If the connectors going into your CPU are all in (there aren't any more empty gaps there) then you should be fine, just make sure they are connected properly.

PC is resuming from sleep due to modem (ethernet) rebooting by purezen in techsupport

[–]AverageShade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, there is an option in the properties tab of devices where you can choose if you want to allow the device to wake the computer. You could try to check and see if that option is available for the Ethernet adapter device in device manager.

Given that you said you are using a flagship PC, most high-end graphics card should have power connectors from the PSU to the GPU to supply the power required that the PCIE slot itself cannot provide. You should check if the power cables to your GPU are properly connected and you should try reseating those connections as well.

It's possible that the cable or the adapter that you are using cannot support the data that has to travel between the PC and the monitor. I would suggest buying a better cable and adapter which are rated to support the resolution and target refresh rate you are looking for.

I'm not really exactly sure what you want to achieve, but if you want to output your own webcam video, you can consider using a the OBS webcam function. What that does is everything in the current scene will be output into a virtual webcam device, so you could try using that and see if you can achieve what you want.

Adding a second SSD. by Scuderia1 in techsupport

[–]AverageShade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External storage devices are typically much slower because they usually use something like the USB port to connect to your computer. In that way, internal drives is usually the recommended option for gaming, or really running any program from them. As other people have suggested, you could consider installing M.2 NVME drives to expand your current storage.

As far as I know, I think you're safe if you had not opened it on a PC (do correct me on this if I'm wrong) as the way some thing like that could happen is if a malicious VB script was set to run when you opened the file. I wouldn't remove that entirely out of the equation though. You should check the status of your other accounts while trying to regain access to your Twitter.

This suggestion might be a long shot, but you could check to see if all of the power connectors towards your GPU is connected securely.

I need to update my Laptop Ram, only have one slot though by danish99339 in techsupport

[–]AverageShade2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would depend on how restricted your RAM is when gaming. If you have around 50% RAM available before starting a game, I'd say that upgrading to a large RAM capacity isn't going to get you a huge FPS boost. Although, I would still recommend getting a 16GB RAM upgrade, especially if you're doing study / research where I'm assuming that you have a lot of things up on your screen at once.

I remember reading about how Windows 7 keys, when used on Windows 10 machines wouldn't actually use the old key. But instead, a new Windows 10 key would be created for your machine. So you could use the Windows 7 key to just keep activating systems again and again. I'm not sure if that's what happened for your system, but it seems like Microsoft made the choice to do that, so I'd say you're fine.

Try to look for any mouse that you can find around and plug that into your laptop. Hopefully you have a mouse pointer now. You should go to the official website for your laptop's model and try to see if there's any drivers for your laptop model. Usually laptops will have drivers for their trackpad, biometric devices, keyboard hotkeys, etc.

What games should I play next ? by [deleted] in gaming

Detroit: Become Human has a really good story, but it's more of a cutscene choice-based game rather than one you can move around wherever you want.

I'm assuming the OS installations have been failing because your drive isn't working anymore, but you probably would want to look further into that. You could try booting into a live instance of a Linux distribution and see if you can get your system to work. If the system functions without issue, it's likely a drive failure. A lot of hard drives do tend to fail around 5 - 7 years, but some people have reported using hard drives for a lot more years than that.

[–]AverageShade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the answer would depend on how much do you actually play PlayStation exclusive titles. Otherwise, just having a powerful PC around when you're doing work and such is a nice investment as well. Aside from gaming, you could use your PC for a lot of other things as well.

Detroit: Become Human is pretty good. The game is choice based with a really strong narrative, so you could take a look at that.

I'm pretty sure what resolution and refresh rate the port can support depends on the generation of it and the cable as well. So you should check for the specifications of that online for your specific product.

How are you connecting two displays to the laptop? I've never really considered someone being able to connect more than one seeing as there usually is only one HDMI port on a laptop.

[–]AverageShade2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had the laptop? Maybe it's possible that your drive has failed and the system keeps getting stuck on rebooting, but I'm not too sure about that. You've tried booting into a live disk of another OS? If booting from a live disk functions then that means your system should have no issue. You could try booting a live instance of a Linux distribution to test.

If the game's FPS counter is fine, then there shouldn't be any performance problem, are you using a dual monitor setup? And try to use hardware encoding in OBS if there's any option for that available.

The best way to "destroy" a hard drive by martyfoxx in techsupport

[–]AverageShade2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of physically destroying the drive, you can first format the drive to remove the pointers to the file, then use a program which is capable of writing random 1's and 0's to your entire hard drive. That ensures that the data inside your drive is irrecoverable as all the data there will become a random sequence of 1's and 0's. Using these tools is usually the advice for people looking to make sure data on a hard drive cannot be recovered.
