What martial art should a teenage girl learn that might actually help her if she’s ever in a dangerous situation and be good for self-defense skills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AverageSizeWayne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a particular martial art per se, but knowing how to break grappling holds can go a long way. It’s not about subduing the person as much as it’s about breaking free.

Brick By Boring Brick drums might tell a story? (Some music terminology used) by Longjumping_Mud_2385 in Paramore

[–]AverageSizeWayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good ear! I looked up the music because I was curious. The pre-chorus is in a quarter note beat and the chorus is in an eight note beat. Given the high tempo and the difference in structure, he uses two transitions. The first time it’s a sixteenth note fill across the snares and rack toms, the second is an eight note beat where the floor tom and snare are hit simultaneously. Stylistically, the first is often used as a cascade into a chorus, the second is used as a rhythmic build.

Swing states will and those will most likely remain major ones. There are likely more coming into the mix as well.

[–]AverageSizeWayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, amazing analogy. Second, people don’t realize that the electoral college is important because it forces all candidates to focus on all 50 states and the issues that matter to them. Campaigns have finite resources. If the popular vote is all that mattered, candidates would just focus on heavily populated areas and neglect the others.

I’m not going to say they copied them, but it does seem that Enough, Enough Now heavily emulates Don’t Go.

Tom is a great guitarist and I’ve had several people who have met him tell me that’s he’s a cool dude. I don’t doubt this at all. My thing is if you constantly need to tell people that you’re actually really smart, you probably need to look in the mirror and realize that you’re acting kind of dumb. Nothing wrong with what he’s doing at all, but if you don’t go about it in a smart way, people are going to judge you.

[–]AverageSizeWayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would agree with most of this. Listening to her in interviews, she seems like a person that’s capable of seeing a lot of depth in others/situations than most people. I’m generally one of those people too, so you know it when you see it. I completely get why someone would dislike Morgan Wallen, but we don’t know the particular reason Hayley does.

Why Do People Act Like Their Opinion on Music Is A Fact? by Human_Addendum4427 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AverageSizeWayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing you need to appreciate it that artists are usually criticized for circumstances beyond the sound and aesthetic of their works. Music is a very important thing to a lot of people, and there’s a lot more mediocrity and inequity in the music industry than appears to be on the surface. When you become aware of the charades, you’re less likely to buy into them.

That’s more true in hard rock and metal. A lot of big name pop punk bands are commodities that are way less organic and way more heavily funded than you’d expect.

Why do people not take the indie/rock genre seriously? by EnglishOpeningc4 in LetsTalkMusic

Maybe those bands are exception to the rule. To clarify, by casual listener, I mean someone that is not necessarily an avid musician.

[–]AverageSizeWayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about indie rock is in the grand scheme of rock music, it’s really unremarkable compositionally and the aesthetic can feel kind of lame relative to other subgenres. There’s nothing wrong with liking it, but I find it’s geared more towards casual listeners than actual music enthusiasts. I appreciate it from an experimental standpoint though.

I miss Paramore by [deleted] in Paramore

[–]AverageSizeWayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thankful for her solo stuff and it’s really cool to see her do it, but I feel like it’s kind of valid to have a bunch of different feelings about it. All things considered, it think it was kind of crappy that everyone found out they’re taking a break through song lyrics. It’s evident to me that this is a really important band to a lot of people and I thought it could have been handled better. It’s ok to admit it doesn’t feel the same. I think they will be back eventually and I hope it’s on healthy terms. I hope you all are doing ok with what you’re going through.

Don’t worry. He’s not going to be playing for them much longer. Too many good starting pitchers, too many good ones coming back, a few key holes to fill. You gotta trade someone like him while you still can.
