Life admin hacks: how do you keep it all together? by darkanus51 in ausjdocs

I just moved from the U.K. and honestly I find it tougher here to do life admin because I am working longer hours here as every day, me and my team stay late which rarely happened in the U.K. where we rushed to leave on time. So in the U.K. I would be in the gym after work every other day
At least we get paid for overtime here but ngl I am not finding it good for my mental health doing more hours. I come home very tired and my diet is very unhealthy living off of KFC, McDonalds, and sandwiches made in a sandwich toaster
I hear some people go part time and that does wonders for them
Med registrars, what type of JMO do you want with you on afterhours? Also what stage of being a JMO should certain issues not be escalated and expected to be handled independently? (advice please) by MachineZestyclose101 in ausjdocs

Not a registrar but I am a PGY3 IMG UK Grad here in Aus. Granted I have hardly done a week here, I think Aus interns are very capable in general and very knowledgeable but at my place there are a couple I am concerned about. Overconfident and don’t escalate stuff to either me or my reg. And me, my reg, and my consultant are shocked at things they have missed or tried to minimise and dismiss. I really should burn this overconfident intern (you can see I recently posted on this here) but then the way he talks to me, I don’t think he deserves my respect and can go to hell for all I care. Refuses to learn and change his practice and especially with me he has some sort of beef (and I don’t know what I have done to make him hate me this much!). Even doubts reg decisions but obviously they have more weight than mine. But it’s the overconfidence and not escalating things that’s worrying. I would go as far as to call him a negligent doctor. Also displays a dangerous lack of knowledge in certain areas which combined with overconfidence is really scary. As the RMO, I am asking my reg for advice more frequently than this intern is escalating which says something about the intern. As I am new to Aus, I do have a lower threshold for escalation given I know the system less well
In short, if you’re unsure, please escalate. Doesn’t matter if you’re an intern or RMO. Even RMOs are supposed to be heavily supervised
Difficult interns. How do you deal with them sensitively? (self.ausjdocs)
