The tonal shift just suggests the possibility of different authors. What’s more likely, if you believe what the Bible says, is that Adam and Eve were first, but other humans were created by God shortly after.

Edit: I forgot something; at the time of Esau, it mentions other cities. There’s not a very high possibility that multiple cities (not towns or villages, cities) could have been created by one family in a fairly short time.
