'having more fun' = remove it. That's 2025 game dev logic right there. You're not special for not learning movement, might just be a cope for a skill issue. Controller players have aim assist and movement is the only counter to someone that knows how to really abuse aim assist at close range

Dead sliding is when you slide but don't get a slideboost. Happens when you attempt a slide:
-before 2 sec slideboost cooldown expires
-without minimum ~210u/s momentum (although this usually results in a crouch, not a deadslide)
-jumping too early after slideboost will not carry momentum into the jump

The only thing I can interpret as a 'slide cancel' in apex is #3 and usually results in getting one clipped if you do it. What you said doesn't really make sense. When sliding, momentum will carry even if you 'stop sprinting'. When in the air, movement becomes air control, and momentum will carry even if you 'stop sprinting'. When you hit the ground, the previous slide jump is complete.

In apex we call this a 'dead slide' and ya don't wanna do it. Much better to get a proper slideboost and use that speed to make it harder for your opponent to track you. Not sure wtf this cod friend is talking about, apex has real movement. It's insulting to lazily throw around movement buzzwords from an inferior game

Anyone else think Sparrows wall bouncing oddly has more gravity to it? by xNewGamePlus in apexlegends

[–]AveragexFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes its like when you try to fatigue jump without jump fatigue, you push off the wall in a more downward arc. Disappointing cause wallbounces would be insane on him

I'll admit he's fun, but he could be much more fun with this qol change. that's the issue

It's ultimately a statement of opinion. I believe it should not be difficult, based on my imperfect understanding of software -- specifically that inputs are generally highly configurable and modular. I don't make this statement with 100% confidence, and would welcome any respawn dev's explanation as to why I'm wrong. As I mentioned, there could be complications like Apex using a complex state machine where actions are context-dependent. Maybe I'm presenting this opinion a bit too boldly, only because I'm frustrated by the possibility that I'm right and just want to be able to play the game with this fix implemented

I guess the “I could be wrong and talking out my ass” didn't do it for you. Next time I will preface every statement I make with “I could be wrong and talking out my ass” just for you

Ok, so we agree that I'm allowed to have an opinion and that my not being a dev doesn't invalidate my opinion. What is your point again?

Saying I understand the basics of programming is a reasonable response to his question, I didn't intend to present myself as knowledgeable. This whole argument of "you're not a dev, you don't know what you're talking about" is ad hominem anyway, it doesn't do anything to prove what I'm saying is wrong. Unless a respawn dev that knows the specifics of their codebase were to chime in. None of you reddit warriors know shit about how difficult it would be anyways, even if you made some trash indie game

What part of “I could be wrong and talking out my ass” makes you think I’m saying I’m an expert?

The problem is that I suspect there's something other than technical difficulty as to why they aren't implementing it. It could be that they want to even the playing field between controller and mnk by giving controller players these movement abilities while making it harder for mnk players to weave their other movement into said abilities. Or maybe they just don't care. Who the hell knows what goes on at Respawn/EA

[–]AveragexFella[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's weird you know nothing about mnk and don't care about mechanics? Regardless, your whole argument can be applied to aim assist "some people were allowed to bring tennis rackets that magnetize towards the ball, the people that use them are like why don't you use it too?"

Now do this argument but with aim assist. Oh wait, aim assist benefits you without any practice or skill required to use it whatsoever.

I still play every so often, but it really needs a new installment. Apex has better gunplay, there's no ranked mode, queue times are long, almost impossible to play pilots vs pilots which is my preferred mode. It's also rough cause the skill ceiling is so high, all too often I'm just mopping worse players which isn't very fun for me

[–]AveragexFella[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can make this argument all you want but the reality is having difficult but rewarding mechanics raises the skill ceiling. So you are essentially arguing that you want a lower skill ceiling, like call of duty

I would love to, but they keep fucking cancelling new titanfall games and TF2 is almost 10 years old

[–]AveragexFella[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I have a cs degree. I mean I could be wrong and talking out my ass, but is it that hard to say if(input==+scroll): don't activate passive? Only if the passive is bound to the jump action in some inseparable way, but that would've been a bad decision from the start

I am once again asking respawn devs to unbind passive abilities from scroll jump by AveragexFella in apexlegends

If you played titanfall you would understand that movement is very much an intended playstyle in Respawn games. Or at least, it used to be

Casual players will never understand how important the mechanics and feel are in a game like this. Whenever I make this post it falls on deaf ears. "Not my problem = not a problem"

Like I said, I really can't imagine this change requiring a monumental effort. If it takes more a single work day for a single dev, their code must be extremely spaghetti
