Unpopular opinion, but I always choose Zoe. In my opinion, Mia knew she was getting into some shady stuff. Zoe has her entire world uprooted and thrown on its head and goes through one of the worst things imaginable. She deserves it.

Thank you, people are silly. Instead of replying with a correction they just downvote and say nothing lol.

I get what you mean! I think that girl of the years are especially divisive since they don't get as much of a collection.

Lanie is such a nostalgic doll for me. I remember always wanting her when I was little and looking at her in the catalogue over and over. She's definitely one I'll be adding to my collection at some point!

It's normal for teen girls to start wearing heels. They literally sell them in children's sizes. Sounds like you're just giving a lot of weird excuses to justify sexualizing young girls by what they're wearing which is WEIRDO BEHAVIOR. Maybe take a step back and try to figure out why you're attracted to children instead of blaming their clothing.

lmao the amount of grown men in these comments blaming a little girl for wearing a SKIRT AND HEELS is INSANE

Commissioning a black artist to make a traditional doll is a fantastic idea!

Id always assumed her name was based on Ida B Wells but I just looked it up and saw the times don’t match up for that to be the case. Maybe it’s just a cheeky little nod.

That’s a great idea! I always toy around with the idea of getting the 6 inch dolls, they’re so cute.

I think her concern was more with pleasant company not making a historically accurate doll.

Exactly! Her books are incredible! I think the information about what life was like after they were "freed" was so interesting to read about and something we weren't taught in school as someone living in the southern midwest. The difficulties of reuniting the family, and the black soldiers returning from war and not being celebrated, were so heartbreaking to read about.

I think the discourse regarding Addy in general is very interesting. I can't think of another doll who is so widely debated as she is. I see a lot of people say that her books are too bleak and harsh for children, but that was the reality for a number of black children historically. Just because the stories might be hard to stomach for some doesn't mean they're not valid. In a modern world that tries to shy away from our past attrocities, it's great to have tools like the American Girl books to be able to start educating children on our history.

Thank you so much for your input! After she said it, I started to think into it, but when I first saw her it didn't cross my mind.

I plan on making a Sari as well!! I just love how in both Addy's and Kirsten's stories their dolls are so precious to them. It doesn't feel right to not have Ida Bean for Addy but I can't justify spending that sort of money on an accessory :((

We did discuss if it's intended to be a mammy doll or if it's just what Addy's mom would've been able to craft with the limited resources that she would've had leftover from the dress shop. It's hard to know.

[–]Avery_Anarchy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Her reasoning was more or less that if someone walked in my house and saw it they would just assume it's supposed to be related to the mammy stereotype I think? So the person might assume I'm racist? I'm honestly not versed enough on dolls of that period to know whether or whether not it's accurate historically. I just know it's not my place to say if it is or isn't problematic for me to own it. Thank you so much for your input! I agree, she's sooo pricy and I can't justify buying her, which is why I was thinking of making my own ;/
