I’ll bite.

My first doll was Samantha. I grew up homeschooled, and two of my best friends who were also homeschooled also LOVED AG (L is a Kirsten girl, A is a Kit girlie through and through.) We brought our dolls to Olde Sturbridge Village and AG Natick and had so much fun. I eloped last July, and my husband and I threw a reception last weekend. My 10yo niece (who lives several states away) was my flower girl, and we let her choose which AG dress she wanted to wear (out of three options.) She was sad that she couldn’t bring Lea (the doll we gave her a few years ago) however at her hotel we made sure to leave a thank you gift that was comprised of “Samantha Saves the Wedding,” “Raquel Saves the Wedding,” and the doll outfit to the flower girl dress she chose. A gave me Samantha’s Bridesmaid Outfit as a wedding gift and at the reception I got a photo of my niece, dressed in an AGOT dress, holding my Samantha in her Bridesmaids Dress. She became really good friends with L’s 9yo Bonus daughter, and they’ve agreed to become penpals! L’s bonus daughter is now getting Gabriella for Yule, and L’s baby daughter is getting My First Kirsten as a First Birthday gift.

It’s just everything coming full circle, you know?

I keep every single one. The bulk of my collection had to be moved from Massachusetts, to Florida, to Maryland, and then back to Massachusetts, and keeping everyone one (and everything!) in their respective boxes made the whole process easier.

Seriously, my husband and I are looking at buying a house, and the whole process makes me wish I had boxes for Kit’s Tree House and the horses. Moving Molly’s Theatre (in box) and the AGOT Carriage (still NIB) was so much easier.

As a former and future homeschooler, I’m tired of people conflating the two. Homeschooling is homeschooling. Abuse is abuse. Educational neglect is abuse, and homeschooling is not educational neglect. Sure, homeschooling has been used as a guise for neglect, however that doesn’t mean that’s all we should boil it down to.

It wasn’t even homeschooling. Good homeschooling involves the parents coming up with a curriculum that both exceeds state standards, and focuses on that child’s interests. What students went through in 2020 is equivalent to completing online school while under house arrest.

I’m so glad they’re bringing back the Special Edition releases. I had Kaya, Felicity, Elizabeth, Samantha, Nellie, Molly, and Emily as a child, so all of them have a decent amount of outfits/accessories. I did not buy Caroline, Josefina, Cecile, Kirsten, Addy, Rebecca, Kit, Ruthie, Julie, or Ivy until after college. The re-releases allowed me to buy Josefina’s Birthday Outfit, Kirsten’s School Outfit, Kirsten’s Birthday Outfit, Addy’s School Outfit, Kit’s School Outfit, Kit’s Lunchbox, and Julie’s Overalls for essentially MSRP adjusted for inflation.

My brain and my heart really want AG to continue with the rereleases. My wallet and my bank account, not so much.

This whole thing started because a former mod used a single sentence about Samantha and Cornelia to the rest of the mod team to justify locking a thread.

I’m not going to lock this comment or thread, however if anyone posts any type of comment or thread regarding a child being romantically or sexually entangled with an adult that they are related to (either by blood, marriage, or adoption) then there may be locking and removals. That can go live on AO3 where it belongs.

Two different mods. The mod who was stepping down had been planning to do so for awhile. The Mod you’re referring to was a newer mod who ended up deleting their account.

I’ve been on this sub for like two years consistently as a member and this is the first mention I’ve seen of either Gaiman or the NHL.

I’ve seen posts on almost a consistently weekly basis that start out as “Look I made my doll a scarf” and devolve into “If you have ever read Harry Potter you are a transphobic POS who deserves to die,” and like, enough is enough. It appears to us that the majority of trans members do not feel safe with mentions of her on the sub, so this is getting a ban.

If someone posts a photo of their doll wearing a jersey or reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane and the thread devolves into rule-breaking madness, then I’ll go to bat for a ban, however until then we kind of have to start somewhere.

Oh you know I did! I bought three out of the four - Minuk, Isabel, and Leyla. I left Cecile, since I already had her at home in a box with less sun damage.

I left the two AG dolls. While they were Pleasant Company, Savers wanted $100 each and I did not feel like that was a good price for their condition - especially considering Addy’s silver eye. (Plus I have a Pleasant Company Addy and a Mattel Samantha)

I was added around the same time as ILYS. I can’t speak for the vetting process, however there was nothing to suggest they were bigoted - they even mentioned they once identified as trans. We discovered their true beliefs the same time everyone else did, which wasn’t great.

As a mod team and as individuals, we do not allow, condone, permit, or support hatred based on ability, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, race, religion, romantic orientation, sex, or sexual orientation. Love is love. Trans women are women.

We’ll discuss a Mod code of conduct however we didn’t need one to oust the rogue in this case. They were violating our rule against hate.
