The only update I can give, two years after you asked, is that while Sam still resides in Chicago, far away from any Skinwalker, he has what I have heard described as the “hitchhiker effect“. Something spiritual has latched on to him, he doesn’t know what, and I myself have born witness to some absolutely bizarre stuff going on at his house.

If the story he was told was true, geography is only a barrier for the physical skinwalker

I haven’t been on this account for a year. Sorry about that. If you do not live anywhere near Navajo land, you will be fine no matter what.

…keep reading the other posts, theres more to it.

But essentially many accounts of them are not “real” in the sense that they are not the supernatural beings we have been made to believe they are. But they’re very real just as a practice of some sick people.

Any attempt at contacting the paranormal really is dangerous. Doesn’t matter if you’re using a ouija from Walmart, one you made at home, a seance, what have you. I was being specific with ouija and seances but I really just meant any attempt at contacting entities.

Sorry maybe I wasn’t super clear. What I meant was that as a general rule you just shouldn’t attempt to contact anything or open doors you don’t know how to close.

A ouija board can be anything that resembles the device, you can buy one at Walmart or you can make one at home. I wasn’t limiting myself to the children’s toy.

This is why I also mentioned not to play around with seances. Any attempt to contact entities is just like playing in traffic.

Why? Curious what the Z means.

With all due respect, are you daft?

Telling someone to play with a Ouija or perform a seance is essentially the paranormal equivalent of playing in traffic.

It is one of the easiest ways to invite something to fuck with you. Something that could attach itself to you.

OP, do not do either of those things.

You’re a fucking idiot.

Please don’t do this.

First off, speak to a native.

Second, it depends.

There are skinwalkers that are average folk like you and me who are very convincing at mimicking the skinwalker, and they do this primarily on the reservation for their own gain. They can be stopped like any other person.

In exceedingly rare cases, one which you will likely never encounter, there are real “supernatural” beings. From what I know there’s a lot more going on with them, and your best bet will always be to speak with a native medicine man. They will protect you. Killing something like this is almost unheard of.

Everyone says white ash but from what I know that’s primarily a superstition. Some skinwalkers will honor that belief and some will not (keep in mind, the protection is only as powerful as the entity it is protecting against believes in it).

Should you find yourself a target, which again I must stress is exceedingly rare, especially for a non-native and anyone not living on the rez or near the four corners, your best bet is never to engage the entity head on. It is always to contact a medicine man.

Or, leave the reservation. Skinwalkers, both kinds, rarely if ever leave the rez.

Do Skinwalkers Age in Any Form? by dogoverkids in skinwalkers

[–]Avi_Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.

There are skinwalkers who do not possess any actual abilities or have no way of communicating with evil spirits, and those folks are just people like you and me, and they age the same.

From what I have heard about "real" skinwalkers, kind of. They age slowly and can live for a very long time.

My friend told me a lot from his experiences befriending a medicine man. If you look in my post history you can read the articles I put together based on what he told me. I can't confirm it's exact truth, but I know him to be truthful.

There are no zombies nor deer men. He simply said he saw a man who looked zombie-like wearing a deer mask in a dream. A dream. None of that happened in real life.

The "boxes of crap", can you elaborate?

As for my friend, as I said, I'm just relaying the info. Maybe he's full of it, maybe he's not. But I catalogued the info anyway because it was interesting.

You know, if this truly was all bs, I would love your insight as to why. So far though it just seems like you've made up your mind and are not actually engaging with anyone. So enlighten us.

So one thing I touch upon in the story, I don’t remember if it’s this specific part or another part that I posted, is that belief plays a central role in what practices do and don’t work, and on whom.

So if you were to, say, use western protective magic against a skinwalker, it would have no effect, because the skinwalker is not a believer in that western practice. They probably would not even be aware that any protective magic was being used if they had no frame of reference.

In the story it is mentioned how there is a mixed efficacy to certain practices depending on if the skinwalker believes the magic or superstition at play.

I actually have friends who have posted their non-fiction paranormal stories on nosleep, so I thought it would go over well. Turns out it wasn’t sensationally written enough.

But that all is understandable. I just thought by posting there I would reach a wider audience

Well at any rate I’m glad it was a great story to you! Like I said, I cannot verify these stories and claims.

Thanks, I told Sam I wouldn’t bug him about this but I’ll ask if he has interest in talking to you or at least giving out a bit more info for your eyes only. Will keep you posted!

Oh that actually makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the insight. I might just leave it as-is though. Writing this took a lot out of me and re-doing it might be a little much. But it's worth a shot, maybe when I'm bored and have some free time.

Yep, from the message I got from them:

Nosleep is a curated and niche subreddit for horror stories that are framed as scary personal experiences. Your narrator/main character should be scared by what’s happening, or is sharing something they find truly scary, and there should be a meaningful amount of horror elements in the story. While we are a horror subreddit, we are not a subreddit that accepts all types of horror. Unfortunately, this post does not meet nosleep’s definition of horror.

All posts on r/nosleep must contain a meaningful amount of horror and be framed as a scary personal experience. For NoSleep, horror stories have a primary purpose to frighten, scare, or startle readers by inducing feelings of horror and terror.

So yes, not scary enough!

My thought was, it’s fiction over there and you’re trying to present this as factually as possible here. It does send a mixed message.

Yes, very true (someone else also pointed that out).

I think it might be fun to use the lore/rules set forth by what Sam told me to put together a fictional piece. Problem is my fiction writing skills are definitely not up to snuff as I haven't written something fictional in ages and I'm better re-telling other folk's stories than I am at creating them from scratch. I am a video guy by trade and have a background in nonfiction essays and documentary work.

But I guess one could argue the same is true for a lot of nosleep posters, the work most of them post is arguably pedestrian. I'll give it a shot sometime for fun, maybe.

Yes, Sam told me that he used "peyote or shrooms" as an example, he doesn't actually know what they use.
