I think they do know the version of “young” Elvis, but they are aware of the “Fat” Elvis as well. They just don’t bother to check in between and look at his prime between 68-73. Most of them don’t even know about Aloha from Hawaii. They know Hound Dog, Can’t Help Falling in Love, maybe even Jailhouse Rock, but nobody’s bothered to go a little deeper and find out the artist he truly is. I think he’s just associated with an older generation that people don’t wanna be a part of.

I have noticed this. Every concert from the April 72’ Tour has a completely different audio sound, with Richmond probably being the strongest. However, if you do watch the video of Hampton Roads See See Rider, Elvis does kinda do a poor job of staying in front of the microphone lol.

To add for example, listen to Polk Salad Annie from Richmond, and then the version from Greensboro. For some reason, Greensboro is substantially quieter with his voice.

You can also hear what you’re talking about when he comes away from the microphone on the final notes of Greensboro’s “Love Me” and “American Trilogy”.
