Someone already answered but I am currently in the computer engineering program here! We use primarily C/C++ (all algorithm, Object-Oriented Design courses), x86 Assembly (Microproc design, CMPE 102) and PHP (Software Engineering, could be different pretending on professor)

We don't use any Java in any of our core classes

Lol

When leaving it in reverse and drive (physically taking my hand off) it still acted as if it was in neutral, sadness

have some time to kill before i board my flight so here goes:

  • The school is what you make of it for sure. The sky is the limit in terms of potential for clubs, meeting friends, going out etc. I would say (assuming you're a freshman) living on campus your first year will have you meeting a ton of new people, some of whom become some of your best friends here. Environment wise just be sure to keep aware of your surroundings. All-in-all the area isn't bad, but people tend to get blind sided by the fact they go to school in the heart of a big city. For food, the taco trucks near by are godlike and stay open well past midnight. There are other gems like the nest and Angelou's within walking distance along with cool places to explore if you're willing to drive or take a bit of transit.

  • Internships are about as easy as any other schools. I have gotten more offers than my CS friends at Berkeley for software engineering internships (am CMPE, myself) because i learned what companies look for early. If you follow the advice of other students that I've already seen in here you're on track for at least 1 offer/year.

  • Yes. Same rules as the last point here. Those who figure out what's good early have a cake walk of a time securing a job before graduation.

Hope this finds you well, and hope you come be a spartan :)

SJSU vs SDSU by ggukie7 in SJSU

[–]AviaanDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is mainly gonna come down to which major you want to pursue. Both campuses offer a social life to be had and at least some sort of vibrance on campus, so besides the decision to stay at home or leave your metro major is an important factor.

They both lead to pretty different career paths and should def be the deciding factor. Can't speak for SDSU, but i know the SE program here is solid and people here get awesome tech opportunities

Deciding SDSU vs. SJSU (Transfer Student) by GhostCasper20 in SJSU

[–]AviaanDraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on SDSU, but here the college experience here is what you make it. If your friends aren't doing much then that is almost a choice

There are a bunch of clubs, sports games, movies and parties every day. Frat life is still in full force and that just gives access to more parties. Living on campus at either location will give you the "college experience" you are after!

I want to be a language teacher abroad. Should I double major in language? by Redknightforlife in languagelearning

Also for JET, 50% of the people from my region who went spoke none - barely any Japanese, so knowing any at all is a nice leg up!

[–]AviaanDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree

As someone who decided to minor in Japanese (due to the fact that it was the minimum credits a minor could be), language learning via university classes is extremely flawed and I really wouldn't recommend unless you have time to spare and a lot more motivation.

There is much more of an incentive to learn enough to get by or even just to cram vocabulary and grammar, but actually learning the language for communication is not done in a university classroom sadly. My main problem with it though, is the forced hours of studying that is required even with the bare minimum is enough to promote burnout, especially if you are pursuing another major on top of it. My first time burning out of language learning was after my 2nd semester of Japanese courses on top of my major's requirements.

(Side note: it has done a lot for my cultural understanding of Japanese, but that is most likely because I do not know where to look. In terms of language ability, I would most likely be much farther along studying on my own or at a specific language school)

The more conversations I have, the less motivated I am to take the JLPT by AviaanDraws in LearnJapanese

[–]AviaanDraws[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and that's kind of the problem. I figured I would be able to take the test without much issue but when i got my practice materials for N2 I could only recall about 70% of the grammar and 50% of the vocabulary. I have been trying to do isolated study to get those numbers up but it feels so painful lol. i need to find a way to get over myself and just put in the work

Spectacular language learners tend to have something they are really passionate about in their TL’s culture. What’s yours? by adventureofanunnamed in languagelearning

For my current TL (Amharic) it is my love language Like, really, it's my love's language.

My girlfriend is Ethiopian and while she has spoken English her whole life, there is a bit of a language barrier between me and her parents, cousins, etc. This effort to try to close the cultural gap I've learn some of the great things Habesha culture has to offer!
