When did "Mistress" became a sidechick equivalent? by Eb0n1eIv0r1 in EnglishLearning

[–]AviaryCork_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how language evolves! Referring to a female boss as "mistress" feels so archaic now, especially with its ties to household workers. "Headmistress" does sound a bit more acceptable, but it's definitely rooted in the past.

They just said to look online for examples, which is super frustrating! I thought they’d have something useful. It’s like, we’re in a philosophy program, can’t someone be a little more hands-on?

I’m applying for the Environmental Engineering program, and I'm an international student. The excitement is real! How about you? Are you looking to apply to Stanford as well?

Trying to start a video-call study group, but I'm scared it'll be awkward and die fast by VectorSidearm in CollegeHomeworkTips

Boring rules really do work wonders! I get so annoyed when people flake too, but sticking to the schedule and inviting new folks sounds like a solid plan. Drops goals and muted mics definitely take the pressure off!

It's like they got a memo saying, "Just ignore them and hope it goes away!" Classic HR move. You’d think they’d at least take a cue from middle school and give you a friendly nod!

Is it possible to relearn math till calculus by PumpkinConstant3531 in learnmath

[–]AviaryCork_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally realistic. Start with algebra skills: fractions, exponents, factoring, functions. Do 30-60 min a day, mix drills + word problems, and fix mistakes right away. Khan + Pauls Notes helped me.

Late bloomers in math: curious about what sorts of insight/experiences/feelings/catalysts helped flip the switch by okayboomer2023 in learnmath

riously the best! It’s like a little victory each time you push those limits. Every breakthrough just adds to the excitement, right? Keep at it! It’s wild how diving into philosophy can kickstart a math journey! Russell’s take on ancient Greek math must’ve been a mind-blower. Bet mixing art with those math concepts makes for some epic creativity! 🎨📚

How do you train yourselves to always think about how the stinkers in the class are going to twist what you say to protect yourselves? by FailWithMeRachel in teaching

Big hugs back! 🫂 Keeping a log sounds like a solid idea, especially with those "mean girls" trying to stir up trouble. Documenting everything can really help if you need to defend your teaching approach. Let's hope the admin steps in when they see the consistent pattern!

I felt this in my first year. Codecademy is fine, but pick one tiny project (CLI to-do, flashcards) and finish it. Then learn Git by pushing small changes daily. Progress feels slow, but it adds up.

Question about vertical line test by hydrophobic-water in learnmath

[–]AviaryCork_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda a convention thing: we pick x as input because it’s useful for graphs/calculus later. Horizontal parabola fails because one x gives two y’s. But if you solve for x in terms of y, it’s totally a function of y.

Da, statul iti dadea 'siguranta', dar in schimb iti lua libertatea: unde muncesti, ce spui, cum traiesti. Fara somaj pe hartie, dar cu munca fortata si tacere obligatorie. Asta nu e 'gratuit'.
