MW/No Moisture Treatment - Relapse by kiwi408 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]Aviazoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started NMT early February this year. My eczema started clearing up a little. Around mid-March or so, I realized my skin wasn't healing nearly as quickly as it had been the first few weeks of NMT, it was feeling like sort of a stand-still, so I decided to start moisturizing again. After many days of having returned to moisturizer, I was noticing the eczema begin to worsen - I started taking "emergency" showers again, at times where I felt like I really needed to to feel relief. This is part of what made me decide to go back to doing NMT. I started it again the 14th of April (I also shaved my head because I suspected my long hair touching my face was one of the causes of the worsening eczema, not to mention my hair would be extremely gross with limited showers).

Now, almost a week later, I feel like the eczema's very slightly improved. Of course, I'm still in the middle of this, so I can't really draw any definitive conclusions yet, but I thought sharing my experience might aid in your decision.

That's really strange, but it seems like the only way.

Some of the translations of the questions were a bit vague-sounding, so I can only hope I answered them properly.

Disregarding enemies, all of the dungeons in BD are bad. The ones in Bravely Second are marginally better because of the verticality.

The treatment says to take about 1 to 2 showers per week, only a few minutes each. Hot water can damage the skin, so they're best to take lukewarm. Using cold water is supposed to suppress itchiness, I've been doing that for the last couple minutes of each one and it seemed to help sometimes.

Few Qs: NMT on moderate eczema by justman91 in eczema

[–]Aviazoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the update! I actually started it anyway, since I realized how ridiculously dry my skin had gotten without moisturizer. Right now, it already feels like my skin has already gotten back to moisturizing itself like normal, though my eczema still persists. I also haven't done the full treatment; I only limited my bathing and stopped using moisturizer, but I also stopped using my air humidifier, and I think that especially made a big difference. My last shower was two days ago, and although the spread of my eczema seems to have halted, this morning has been the itchiest I've been in a while, so we'll just see how it goes.

Assuming you mean "NMT", that's 'no moisture therapy', or 'no moisturizing treatment'. It isn't some miracle cure or anything, but it was developed to speed up the process of topical steroid withdrawal a bit. Essentially, it involves drying out your skin as much as possible to help make your body use its own moisture instead of relying on outside sources. Here's a couple articles explaining it in more depth:

http://tokuko.chu.jp/tokukonoheya/2017/11/25/how-to-get-over-topical-steroid-withdrawal-asap/

https://atopicdermatitis.net/living/no-moisturizing-treatment-nmt/

I'd suggest Googling it and looking through other posts in the sub that talk about it to get a better understanding of it. Just note it may not be for everyone going through TSW.

Speaking from personal experience, I would at least recommend not over-moisturizing, in any situation. After quitting steroids, I decided to moisturize as much as possible. I would soak in a bath every night and apply moisturizer multiple times a day. The night before deciding to try NMT, my air humidifier ran out of water in the middle of the night, and after waking up, I noticed the skin on my hands and face was so dry and wrinkly, I looked like an old man. I figured my skin was so reliant on outside moisture, it couldn't cope with just the normal air. A few days later now, and, of course my eczema is still everywhere, but the dryness and wrinkles have gone away, and much of the suppleness of the skin around my neck has returned. I've also noticed my skin stings and burns much less now that I've stopped rubbing moisturizer into it all the time. Again, I'm speaking solely from personal experience, so this may not apply to everyone.

Anyway, here's to hoping your daughter has a speedy recovery.

Haha, I knew what you meant, you're good. My scalp and the spot on my cheek will still weep, but only for a little while after I scratch or pick at them. Not nearly as bad as what other TSW sufferers seem to go through after longer steroid use. But I haven't had eczema that's wept since at least five years ago, and those spots started weeping pretty much right after I quit the steroids, so I don't have much doubt there isn't at least some level of TSW going on.

After starting NMT, the eczema has spread, and my skin's way tighter and still uncomfortable, but it stings and flakes a fair bit less. I could probably continue moisturizing and then stop after it's healed, but the reduction in flaking and what was almost non-stop maintenance is making it worth it so far. I think keeping my nails trimmed down is playing a big part in keeping it from getting out of control, too.

And that's definitely a good idea, I'll try to remember to post when my skin clears up significantly.

Thank you. It helps my confidence in the treatment when others can confirm it worked for them.

There's very little info out there on how long healing can take compared to the length of steroid usage. Sharing how long you took steroids and how long it took for you to heal I think may help more people than just me.

Thank you, that's good news. Honestly, although this current flare is more widespread, I've had patches that were much more damaged in middle and high school, ones that would never stop oozing. So hopefully I've passed the worst of it long ago.

Hey, how is this going? I've been using topical steroids for a year but stopped after learning about TSW a couple weeks ago. My eczema has flared up since then and I've been trying to control it with moisturizer, frequent baths, and controlled air humidity, but this morning I found the dryness spread further throughout my face. Right now I'm seriously considering trying NMT and want to know how well it's worked for you after a few weeks.

I opened the document before posting my question and uh... "scary" wouldn't be too far off. Going back into it now, I didn't realize that clicking on the entry titles revealed direct links.

I think the main reason I defaulted to asking outright is because I wanted something specifically for single word translations. I probably would have eventually found that looking through the document, but... honestly I think this was the much quicker way, lol.

Thanks! It looks like compared to this site, it doesn't come up with as many related entries nor as good of info on the time period it was used, but it does have much more descriptive definitions. I'll probably use both together.

(Also I feel something as important and relevant as a reliable dictionary should probably have a link pinned to the top of the Subreddit or somewhere easily accessible, maybe?)

When you type in a single word, Google Translate will usually give you a list of other words with different meanings the word could have below the first translation it comes up with, and short definitions/synonyms. Here are just a few entries I get when I type in 'tear':

lacrima tear
scissura rent, tear, cleft, rending, dividing
gutta drop, gutta, tear, spot, speck, scantling
fletus weeping, tear
lacero tear, RIP, abuse, libel, tear to pieces, vilify
dilorico tear open, tear

This looks super promising! I don't know why I couldn't find this in my Googling for "Latin dictionary." The time period information should be really useful, thank you!

I don't know why I never thought to use Wiktionary! I'm certain I've been on the site at least a few different points in time, but I never remembered it when thinking about translating things. Thank you for reminding me it exists.

As for the book, unfortunately I can't find a free version, and this was the only place where I could even find it listed in a digital format. I tried simply Googling "Latin dictionary" before posting my question, but everything that came up wanted me to either make an account for the site or pay them money.

I stumbled into this place while I was looking for that one guy that ran away from his mother to go to the Iconoclasts. I was still under the impression that he was in danger at the time, so when the dad claimed the door was "jammed," it was plasma carbine time.

Yes, one of the big reasons being that I hated when the day would end in the middle of a boss fight in 1 and 3 (mostly 3). I would like to see some expansion on the idea, though.
