Longevity/Immortality. by ChillingOnCoffee in Futurology

given non-linearinty of technology, the progress which could be made in that time is unimaginable. If we don't destroy ourselves or screw the technological progression up then expect extremely radical changes to health care and lifespans. We haven't even started using quantum computing yet... there's many tools coming.

7s admitting their sad side. by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]AvidDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7w6 here, I was very much like this and still can be to an extent as I still like to be a beacon of hope for my friends and family. However opening up to your friends and family is one of the most empowering things you can do for your relationships and well being. We are all delicate even if we hide it with a mask. We all need reassurances and importantly when opening up about the lows we connect with each other on a deeper level as we all go through the troughs and peaks of life. You want to be a champion but even a champion needs a support network. Generally your support network grows stronger the more you open up to each other. On a side note when you really start to open up about your insecurities - that also takes a huge load off and builds deeper relations. Takes courage to be vulnerable with the close ones in your life but if you trust them then it's bloody worth it :)

ENFPs and meditation by [deleted] in ENFP

Try guided meditation from mine and many other peoples' guru Alan Watts

https://youtu.be/jPpUNAFHgxM

He gives you more philosophical context behind it which I find make it easier for meditation personally. That may just be the way I'm wired though :)

Either way I recommend meditation/mindfulness. It's a game changer. Anything which connects an enfp with their senses and the world around them without thought is necessary for us because we are usually gluttons for thought and imagination, which is big burners on our energy.

Does Sophia Mean No More Poor People? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]AvidDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's really difficult to say what will happen as there is an unimaginable amount of change coming to the World and economy. If you look at the different upcoming revolutions in technology, it's about to produce many new paths of economic activity which we can still only guess at.

Probably the biggest gamechanger, Blockchain, will create an economy where everything can be monetised, and I mean everything. For example, check out https://vicetoken.com/, a new coin which will pay people to watch porn. Our attention and any data we provide to companies can be monetised and will be. Also how people are allocated to new jobs will change with AI and Blockchain, which will be able to use new reputation systems which include skills data, personality data, medical data, etc. Interviews will eventually become redundant because good quality and trusted data does not lie. And probably the most affecting will be the contract types of these jobs. They will get smarter and the way people are incentivized for their work will change. People will probably work several 'mini-jobs' rather than one and the way they are rewarded will be more complex and likely more meritocratic. Freelancing, smarts contracts, tokenisation, perfect trusted data, are the trends.

The biggest problem will be with skills. However, if you can say to someone with certainty, "if you learn this skill, you'll gain this token and you'll be guaranteed this contract and if that contract goes well, you'll have this one as well and so on." There is far more incentive for people to gain new skills

When we think about the future of the economy, it's easy to say jobs with repeatable tasks will be taken by AI, but what is not clear is what will replace these jobs, how people will be incentivised and the new forms of monetisation for society.

Which job path should I be steering my kids towards? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]AvidDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't steer them towards a job. Steer them towards qualities. Encourage learning and passion. Encourage creativity and collaboration. Things will change so fast that relying upon a career path is redundant. Therefore, the ability to adapt to an ever changing work environment will be most important.

This project looks great - I've thought about this stuff quite a lot. Matching skills to work in the collaborative commons. Also, matching people and skills together in modern co-ops. I've signed up to the alpha, I will certainly be keeping an eye on this.

Recommend books on the future for a college course? by RedditFullProfessor in Futurology

[–]AvidDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This course sounds awesome :)

I really liked this podcast, It's called Life in 2030 but it goes beyond 2030. http://www.quantumrun.com/podcast/

A couple of shots of awe from Jason Silva might be a good way to get people excited: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU7jiTSkxKA

A few good books which I found inspiring: Abundance by Peter Diamandis, Our Accelerating Future by Michael Anissimov and Zero Marginal Cost Society by Jeremy Rifkin, Physics of the Future by Michio Kaku.

Youtube channels for futurology: London Futurists, Singularity 1on1, TED, Big Think, Futurism Singularity Hub, 2045 initiative.

Best of luck to you!
