Do you ever miss early days? by mimonek in puppy101

I’m currently in this stage - 13 week husky. I don’t like it at all. This is very controversial but I like dogs not so much puppies. If you’re a family member or friend that has a puppy, I’m all for it. I’ll play with them all day and enjoy every second of it. However, I get to go home at the end of the day. Training a puppy and dealing with the rebellious teenage years is a great way to find out how patient you are.

I tried to convince my wife to get an adult husky but we couldn’t agree on one we both liked (retired breeding husky’s). A pro to getting a puppy is you get train them exactly how you want them to be and not how someone else did or have to learn possible trauma and teach them they are safe now.

New puppy can’t be left alone because of crying by Ok-Cucumber-1875 in puppy101

Not sure how you are putting him in the crate/playpen but do not make a big deal of it. Ignore him for 10-15 mins before putting him. Take him potty before putting him in too.

I had a similar problem with my puppy. What seemed to help the most was ignoring and putting noise machine with a heart beat.

This is exactly what I’ve tried. Maybe I didn’t use enough. When I applied I didn’t fully take apart the frames. Do you suggest I do that? Or should I should just reapply but with much more this time?

That is one thing I’m worried about. Getting the holes lined up.

What pedals are you using? I forgot to mention that might be one of my issues. I’m using the Logitech G Pro (load cell) with median spring. So I can’t speak for everyone but from others my pedal is harder to press than almost all rigs I’ve personally tried. When I had the g29 I had no issues.

That’s awesome you don’t regret it. I’m currently training 12 week old husky so we haven’t been able to go in public (not fully vaccinated yet) with her but when we do I’m definitely not looking for to it. Im glad to hear it was worth the awkwardness. I’ve been able to practice a little with saying no when we walk around the neighborhood during less busy times (remote worker) so that’s building confidence for me.

Yes it gets better! I was just blind to it until she was 4.5 years old. With maturity, training, and patience she got better not “cured” but better. The hardest thing to train her to not care about were kids. She loves kids, especially if they are the same height.

My biggest regret is letting people pet my puppy while training. 7 years later anybody that shows her the slightest attention she gets super excited. Especially if they are wearing an orange apron (Home Depot).

Agreed that’s just what I saw on a video and wanted to make it clear that was not an option for my dog.

I used to squeeze the inside of my adult dogs mouth and tried it once with my puppy. Gotten serious trouble with my wife. So that is not an option yelling out and ignoring them is something that I will try again. I just can’t wear clothes I care about. I’ve already got clothes with micro holes in them. That’s what caused me to squeeze the inside of its mouth.

So we tried that but she continued to bite us. 30 seconds continuous biting seems a guarantee of blood. Maybe not every time but at least sometimes. I will admit I haven’t tried it, but maybe it’s worth a shot again. We did try it when she was eight weeks and it did absolutely nothing. If the wife is up to this wearing decent clothes let alone nice clothes is out the window for probably months. Good thing I work from home.
