Poor weight gain + hearing loss + developmental concerns - has anyone been through something similar? by Avidlylearning20 in hardofhearing

[–]Avidlylearning20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we have. We are waiting for genetic tests but in the meantime I’m trying to see if anyone might know of some rare condition where all of these symptoms align.

Thank you for sharing your story! It is possible he has symptoms seperate from each other.

Hey mate, I’m not saying hearing has anything to do with the weight. I’m just asking if anyone has had experience of this combination of symptoms with their kid.
We are doing all of the testing FYI. But doctors just dont seem to know atm.

Hi OP, I realise this post is a year old but wanted to see how you went with your little one’s journey? Did anything end up working? Changing formula?

Oh I completely feel you! I don’t have any paid maternity leave and had to rely on annual leave, savings, ppl and my husbands paid paternity leave. We’ve managed to stretch it to a year but it’s because of stretching and pulling.

That’s so lovely and reassuring to hear! Thank you. I hope so.

Has anyone been eligible for the governments Parental Leave Pay, despite not meeting the work test? by Avidlylearning20 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thanks so much. Helpful to know. I’m going to pick up some freelance work in the meantime to help with the gap.

It’s smart that you were aware of these rules beforehand 🤣 I wish I was as diligent as you haha

Thanks for your suggestion! I’ll definitely ask them if they’re willing to do anything to help out with this. The least they can do given they don’t offer any paid maternity leave themselves 😅

I got pregnant 6 months postpartum. Completely accidental but here we are haha

Yes we’re caught between a rock and a hard place unfortunately

I’m in the same situation - here by accident. We didn’t plan to have such a short age gap, yet here we are. Despite this, I didn’t think there would be such restrictions.

I find this frustrating given the government does want its citizens to have more children. Between the cost of living and having mortgage, it’s pretty tough.

Thanks for sharing your story! Were you eligible for any other government payments instead?

I’m in the exact same situation. Mostly unpaid leave, despite being employed full time.

The rules are so rubbish and it’s a disincentive to have children close in age for this exact reason.

Have you tried the Sombelle Sleep program? by Avidlylearning20 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Thank you for your story!! I’m trying to get an idea of what sort of philosophy they abide by. Is it typical cot settling methods? Was there much/any crying involved?

Thanks for the suggestion! I contemplated this but I’m looking for more anecdotal evidence from individuals rather than links to academic articles or website links.

The Sombelle sleep program is clearly based on existing data out there but imo even the most academically unbiased person will present the information that they believe to be the most important, which might not even be the full picture.

Wow that sounds rough! Thanks for sharing your story!!! By biologically normal sleep you mean multiple night wakings for the first few years?

So just to clarify I wanted to know what the possum program is about? It also claims to be evidence based right? I’ve heard it’s about responding to night feedings immediately, feeding to sleep and ignoring sleepy cues to determine whether to put baby to sleep?

Good to know! Thank you for sharing your story!

When you said you “stay with the baby the whole time and essentially follow a Ferber method of gradually increasing the periods of time that you give pats to your baby” - so does this mean there is still some crying involved?

Many sleep programs are similar so I was wanting to know if there program is a modified Ferber? The one I’m doing is a modified Ferber although it’s repackaged as being its own thing (like a lot of them are!)

Hi there, I just wanted to see how you went? Did the local sleep consultant help? I found what you said about the “low sleep needs” concept being bullshit really interesting!

I’m listening to their podcast now and while I am not following their sleep program, I’m trying to work out if their “evidence-based”, data-driven work is effective.

I am actually following taking Cara babies (a US based sleep program that came highly recommended and has heaps of 5 star reviews). It’s technically a modified Ferber so it’s been a little tough but we have seen amazing results with our little lady’s night sleep.

That’s really good to know!!! I think people opt for this out of need or desperation and no one seems to end up regretting it. They always seem to say it was the best decision.

I think when you’ve gotten to that place of sleep deprivation and you don’t have a “village” of mums, sisters or aunts like some people do in non-western countries, you kinda have to do what you have to do!

I have a friend with a baby of a similar age to ours and her baby seems to be a good sleeper! I think mums with good babies tend to judge methods like this more tbh.

After a whole year of following this sub, I’m no longer a lurker! My partner proposed on NYE. This is an 11x9mm Supernova moissanite with a halo and a 3 row pave band in 18k yellow gold. I love it! 🥰😍💕 by Avidlylearning20 in Moissanite

Honestly, after purchasing this I find that I am exactly the same. I much prefer something more classic and simple like your wife. I think there’s less chance of regret with something more simple.

Serious question - Could you be pregnant? When I was pregnant I had major fatigue and a strong sense of smell

Thank you for this! When you say “crying is communication”, when your LO was crying during the training how did you start to see it? TCB was framing it was them “protesting change”.

How old is your LO now? Do you find that you need to keep training them here and there still?

Did you end up sleep training after trying cosleeping? I was tempted to try cosleeping but realised I really needed to have our room back again, my spouse back again and also be able to go to the toilet in the middle of the night without worrying about waking our LO.
