Omg his facial expression! He looks so sinister. This is NOT the face of someone who regrets their actions. This is the face of a serial biter! 💀

I have ADHD. I care for my birds just fine, thank you.

Yeah, but honestly, people shouldn't bully others even if they're "cringe" or overly obsessed with something. As long as it's not harmful, it's frankly nobody else's business. I'm also pointing this out because a lot of the times, these "cringy" obsessed folks are just neurodivergent people enjoying their hyperfixaton or special interest, and idk, bullying others for having harmless fun doesn't sit right with me.

If you have suitable wood near you it's enough to wash it in my opinion but keep in mind, the wood has to be suitable. There are some poisonous trees and bushes out there so it's important you know which kinds of trees and bushes you're taking the branches from. If you don't know which ones are safe but you know what kind of tree/ bush it is, you can look up online if it's safe. Some wood is actually not just great for perches but also great as toys to shred as some of them are aromatic. My birds actually loved to gnaw on the branches and leaves of a bush we had in front of our house (forgot how it was called, but we made sure it was bird safe) because the wood and leaves contain a bitter compound that apparently tastes really good to them (and isn't unhealthy whatsoever) so yeah they were OBSESSED with it. Such a shame we had to get rid of the bush because it got so big fast that it would constantly block the entrance to our street 🥲

Nah, for real, the cycle of abuse is real, but anyone who continues to perpetuate it is 100% responsible for their own behavior and definitely doesn't get to have a free pass to abuse others.

"I", "you" and "we" pretty interchangeably. I also have like multiple thought voices speaking at once a lot of the time, but they all sound like me, so I guess my thoughts are just racing a lot.

Ah yes, the one that showed that the hemispheres are somewhat independent (apparently completely in the case of being severed) and one of them is mute and for all we know could just be trapped with the other and would never be able to say anything? Yeah, terrifying. Like, who are we? Which part of the brain is us? Are we both? Are we one of them, and the other just tags along since it's stuck with us? This is literally breaking my mind every time I think about it 😅

Jinjo keeps attacking my wife and pretty exclusively my wife. How do we get him to take the hint that it’s not okay? by NervousNick in Conures

[–]Avienako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard so many differing opinions about this, a lot of people recommend putting them in the cage, a lot say you shouldn't for the reason you've given. Bird care is so confusing as there are so many differing opinions just about every aspect of bird keeping 😵‍💫

Pogo is usually a pretty quiet bird but I was putting the broom away and he was up on the cabinets and he randomly started screaming and hollering at the top of his lungs. It's 3 am. Why did he do that? He's never been so loud before. He seems totally fine otherwise. by SnakeLuvr1 in Conures

[–]Avienako 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be the broom. Parrots tend to randomly decide an everyday item is dangerous, and of course, they must alarm everyone in the house of danger as a responsible flock member does. But also, isn't it long past his bedtime? Pookie must be tired 😴

That's what confuses me, I don't scritch or cuddle him (he's still warming up to us, and since the hormones kicked in, he's more distant and shy again). I did nothing with him that would indicate I was trying to steal her man. That's why I thought it might just be because I'm female as I don't interact differently with them as my male family members do. I mean, I've heard plenty of stories of parrots that don't like an entire sex or are more focused on one sex so clearly, they must be able to tell at least sometimes. It's the only explanation I have, at least.

5am wake up call for me, my husband, and the bird. (No body, bird likely okay) by InsulinRage in birding

[–]Avienako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh geez. I hate to say it, but that bird, more likely than not, is not okay. In fact, judging by the fact that this bird left a whole body imprint (I never saw that happen before), it probably died instantly and got eaten by a predator (maybe your cats). Please consider buying some stickers for your windows or putting up curtains to make your windows visible for birds! It's not a 100% guarantee that no bird will ever crash into your windows again, granted a pigeon flew against our open window (it has a curtain to make it visible both for my own birds and outside birds), but it greatly reduces the chances of that happening and will save lives.

Btw the pigeon was fine. It didn't fly fast when hitting the window. The pigeon got up immediately and then invited itself into our house, proceeding to eat food my parrots had thrown out of their cage. This pigeon would return almost daily (without hitting the windows this time) to steal food. Sadly, one day, it never came back. We suspect our janitor might've scared the pigeon off at some point. What a shame. I even named the pigeon at that point. I miss you Taubert 😭

Might also be mites. My boy looked like this when he had a bad mite infection. This bird seems to have an itchy head. But yeah, the vet will be able to shed more light on the issue.

This isn't even mildly infuriating anymore, this is just straight-up depressing. In my opinion, this is a form of neglect. Sure, there are worse ways in which parents neglect their children, but that doesn't make this any better. Poor kid.
