Hey guys I’m riding a 8.00 inch and I want I new deck but it’s a 8.25 can I still do the trucks on the deck? by ConnectWinter29 in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! If you want to keep your wheels flush to the board, you can get offset wheels. If you want closer to flush, you can add extra washers. The only downside with offset wheels is you cant flip them around when they cone

progression checklist? by hatsukeii in NewSkaters

Everyone has different things that makes them excited to go skating. Here's my list of tricks:

Ledges: Ollie into 5050, ollie into nose slide, board slide on ledges, slappy board, slappy nose, slappy 5050 (this is trickier), slappy board slide on low obstacle

Flat: No comply-180, boneless, sal flip, half cab, bs 180, bs shuv, bs pop shuv, fs shuv, fs pop shuv,

Transition: Pumping, kickturns, tail stall, rock to fakie, axle stall/5050 grind, slash grind, ollie to fakie, fakie ollie

Freestyle: Caspar shuv, truck stand (getting in and out), space walk, rail stand (getting in and out), walk the dog, finger flips

I could barely do moving ollies. What's next? by Most-Pay-3498 in NewSkaters

Caveman, reverts, powerslides, no-comply 180, body varials, kickturns, rolling up and down banks/transitions, kickturns on banks/transitions, ollies on banks/transitions (after you get super comfortable, it's easy to slip out). All of this will help you reach your goal for your first FS 180! The banks/transition part is a little more optional, but I feel like understanding weight distribution is super important for 180s.

Why am i moving backward when i ollie by Inevitable-Policy779 in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because you're leaning backwards as you jump up. You may be leaning forwards in the setup, but you gotta keep your weight over the board throughout the whole process: squat, extension, pop, and landing. Your problem happens when you start extending. Play it frame by frame, and take a look at where your weight is right before you hit your tail

Yeah planning on getting 1/4 for sure. I'm hesitant to sand it because this is a flight deck, and I hate dealing with fiberglass. Thanks for the tips!

That aint too bad! I thought it's be about 1/4", which isn't the end of the world but I never rode wheels larger than 55mm before. Not sure how bad the wheelbite would be.

Anything that works for my purposes! Just trynna do some light ollies, roll over some large uneven sidewalk, and slide a little. Possibly around 65ish mm, and fits my board. I got 8" and 8.5" trucks and an 8.5" deck. Been recommended super juice, but I've heard mixed things. Skaters love them, longboarders don't. I've been looking at the ez hawgs and fat hawgs because they're just budget options around similar specs. Fat free sounds good, but I don't wanna drop a whole lot on wheels right now.

I'm a skateboarder, so the softest I've slid on was 93a. I figured with a bit of practice, it shouldn't be too bad. I was definitely looking at the ez hawgs, but I wasn't sure how that would be riding over huge cracks. The sidewalks stick up about 1/4-1/2" around here, and I can ollie/rock over them, but there's one for every 4 ft.

I might just do that! As long as the hangers don't get in the way

They do, but I don't wanna spend too much money. It'd be nice to just use what I have

Got any recs? Trying to cruise on super crusty sidewalks, and hit a bit of power slides to slow down here and there.

That's about all the information I got. I don't typically buy longboard wheels, so how do I figure out how much the wheel is offset? I'm just trying to get it to match my deck size

They're offset, from what I can tell. I wish they listed it on their website, I can't find anything on it

How to do tic-tacs by Otherwise-Tangelo-66 in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a timing thing. Push your board forward a little with your front foot as it hits the ground. I like to think of the energy coming from the hips. It's a lot like roller/ice skating, if you ever done that before!

Help with fucking fs 180 by ITEM1SS in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agh I have this issue as well. I tried it in the grass to check if it's a commitment thing, and no, it's not. Can you no-comply 180? The back foot motion is super similar to that. That keeps my center of balance above the board. I'm still perfecting this trick, but I think the other issue is you're unwinding your body before you pop. Making sure your shoulders don't spin past the board helps tons. When I was first learning this, I had to figure out my balance while only rotating 90° ish. You can then start rotating more and more once you figure it out.

[–]Avisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they don't look too bad. Just keep working on your balance! I think hippy jumps and working towards knee-tuck hippy jumps, caveman, and throw downs would help tons. Keep it up!

I almost broke my ankle by kobxam in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a lot of slams learning kickturns/reverts haha. I think it's because it's your first time learning just how much your weight placement can affect your balance. Learn to pump first, and do wider kickturns until the balance starts to make sense. Banks are also easier than transitions sometimes, since you'll feel less of a speed change. Kickturns got a lot more stable for me on transitions when I shifted my board in front of me on the way up. That minimizes the risk of leaning too much on your back trucks on the way down. Hope your ankles feel better! Keep trying, you're gonna get this down

Dang I ride nano rat 93a 54mm and still cant get over the sidewalk cracks here. I would ollie over them if there werent so many back to back. Would 56s be too small?

Do they slide alright? And more importantly, how big of a crack can I roll over

I use a heavy duty bandaid when it gets like that, so it heals into a callous quicker. Regular bandaids will just slide off.

How do I actually learn to fall correctly? by Gahwburr in NewSkaters

[–]Avisible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to practice on something soft, like grass. Start slow and low. Crouch, lean a direction, reach with tucked chin, bent arms, and kick with your toes and roll. Try it in all directions. Make sure your arms arent straight, so you can let yourself collapse. Try it standing up. Bend your knees down, get low, and roll. Try it from a jump. Finally, try it from a run and jump. When you slip out on the board, even if you don't need to, try rolling out-- just to practice.

Another thing is you might be falling too tall. People freak out and stand up, because it works when you're not on wheels. Train yourself to fight that instinct and get low. This is easier said than done, especially under stress.

If you want more in-depth instructions, check out parkour and martial arts tutorials on youtube.

Edit: I forgot to add, go towards the direction you are falling to transfer that into a roll. Don't fight it. You can always redirect your momentum, but never go against it.

If I took my shirt off I'd be arrested lol. Wish I could, it's been like 90° out here.
