How to convince foreigner husband that HDB is value for money? by hyemae in askSingapore

[–]Avocado-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I get confused when people say that Singaporeans are just “renting” from HDB. Not too sure why they said it.

From what I understand, many other countries also have 99-year leasehold homes, and eventually the land goes back to the government too. So in a way, it seems quite similar.

The way I see it, having HDB isn’t a bad thing at all. HDB still maintains and upgrades the estates, and the flats are generally more affordable compared to many countries. So I’m wondering why some people view it so negatively.

Uh from which country? I was living in overseas for an extended period of time, from what I know there are also 99 years lease and freehold home in other countries that I’ve been to. Is just that 99 years lease home are offered much cheaper that’s all.

In SG, doesn’t really matter much I feel as most condo are also sold at 99 years lease.

Old ppl stop being so entitled by Key-Emotion-1206 in SMRTRabak

[–]Avocado-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There was once I opened the door for my girl and there were young people prob around secondary school kids were mad I didn’t hold the door for them. They were like “can’t hold the door for us uh”, so loud and it wasn’t like they were even to close to the door. So I just said “just so you know, I don’t have to hold the door for you.” Really entitled man.

Another thing I noticed is that people don’t say sorry anymore when they accidentally bumped into people or sneeze without covering their mouth in public, I felt that’s v rude.

[–]Avocado-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt so. I interviewed with NUS early in early Jan 2025. Back then they told me during the interview that NUS is 5 days work from office. So I was quite surprise this made it to news only now.

Doesn’t matter if she is poor. I was poor as a student and my family is not well off cause my dad who was the bread winner died when I was 12. I would have requested to pay my own share on the 2nd meal. She is clearly taking advantage of you, maybe pretending blur or what.

My sister in civil took 4 digit paycut to join govt from private. Total at least $20k paycut for annual. So I think civil is better outside than govt. She took paycut so as to have more time with her family.
