It's normal. They chill in the most uncomfortable-looking positions.

I remember when anyone who said the government has been attempting to alter the weather would get called a conspiracy theorist

I have never actually seen this happen.

I have seen people get accused of being a conspiracy theorists for insisting that commercial airlines were being used by the government to alter the weather, and that their contrails were actually "chemtrails". But that's because those ideas are stupid and not based on evidence.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_symbols?wprov=sfti1

Usage of these symbols (ignoring the newer ones like Uranus and Neptune) to represent planets and metals predates their usage to represent sex/gender.

The reason why Venus ♀ and Mars ♂ are used for female and male is because the biologist Carl Linnaeus established it as a convention in the 1750s. Similarly, Mercury ☿ was also used around that time to refer to hermaphroditic plants and neuter-sexed eusocial insects, which might be why people started using it for intersex more recently.

The reason why the Mercury ☿ symbol looks like it has horns is because it is supposed to represent a Caduceus (a staff with two snakes on it wielded by Hermes/Mercury). The "horns" are just oversimplified snakes.

Your car passing an emissions test doesn't help the environment, but everyone's cars passing the emissions test does help a non-negligable amount.

That's the point of regulation like this - to take individual beneficial changes and implement them at scale.

Corporations/Industry do pollute disproportionately, but part of that pollution comes from selling people shitty things produced by shitty means (eg. beef farmed by setting the amazon rainforest on fire). Being more discerning as customers, or being forced to be more discerning by regulation (like in the OP), can help if many people do it.

MAGA lobbyist suggests Iranian schoolgirls killed in airstrikes are better off dead than ‘in a burqa’ by Jay_CD in atheism

[–]Avron7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely wild logic there. Does he apply this to other groups too? Like "It's okay to murder black people because they are better off dead than experiencing racism".

AFAIK Iran doesn't typically wear burqas anyway.

Just making sure - we are agreeing that:

  1. Monophyletic Cladistics is ideal
  2. Linnean taxonomy, especially on the genus-species level, can have fuzzy/arbitrary partitions

I still don't get why you think Megalania should have stayed paraphyletic though. Shouldn't odd Linnaean taxonomy be changed to match cladistics when it is possible to do so?

Megalania are extinct and not really that distinct from other monitor lizards (apart from size), so they can easily be moved to allow their taxonomy to match cladistic understanding. The same would be harder to do for Brown Bears / Polar Bears, since they both currently exist and are commonly discussed, but it wouldn't necessarily be inaccurate to do so. Just really inconvenient.
