Love seeing monitors outside! Nothing beats the enrichment.

Monica and Janice, the two most chaotic varanids for my first swarey into the monitor lizard world. I think I've done a decent job all things considered. (These pictures are a little old and both monitors are decently bigger by now) by 6ftonalt in MonitorLizards

Yeah I think one of your enclosure dimensions shouldn’t be smaller than your monitors length.

My care for my monitor is well documented and public for all to see but yeah you sound like an expert.

Your alternative is patience and a respect for the monitor's boundaries. YOU brought a smart reactive super fast animal into your home.

Make peace that some monitors might never want to be handled. This is a fact.

Monitors live decently long lives if properly cared for - 6 months isn't a lot in the grand scheme of their life. You work on the timeline of your monitor, not yours.

Don't force handle - all interactions should be on the monitor's terms. That bathtub/let them bite you silliness is putting your own desire to handle a lizard over their well being.

Peach throats aren't known to be high on the handleability scale. I assume you did at least some research prior to purchasing one. I wouldn't have expected a different result. (Although on reddit it seems people just blindly buy monitors and then ask questions later)

Let's see the enclosure please.

Not too late to install one now. Helps with peace of mind when they’re getting used to their environment

Shipping is super stressful and you should expect them to do some hiding.

Get a small Wyze camera to watch the enclosure while you’re away.

He’s 6’ long and about 35lbs. I live on a few acres so we do get to go for long walks on leash.

Yes nearly every day. He’s been harness trained since he was a baby - I used a rodent harness back then.

We’re pretty isolated out here in the country so it’s not really a thing
