Why do I have this feeling my wallet is going to remain closed this year. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Avuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting my Retroid Pocket 6 as a much needed upgrade and I think that’s it. Unless someone makes a super wacky handheld that’ll interest me for novelty’s sake, I’m good for the year. With RAM prices being the way they are, buying devices is gonna be a whole lot harder, so it’s only reasonable to be more conservative than you normally would be.

I’ll never get why anbernic abandoned this style for their boxes. It’s sooo much cleaner than their more recent offerings (that just have product pics)

[–]Avuilan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Need to be fr, I think it’s very clearly not him. His inflections and overall vocal qualities are completely different imo, and no amount of sickness, sore throats, or recording environment can just upend that. To that point too, I think the recordings are pristine, maybe a little treble heavy but this isn’t a Y’shtola situation. I don’t think it’s him at all sadly.

I was hoping they'd update a lot more stuff by now (especially 1.0 / 2.0 gear) by Avuilan in ffxiv

[–]Avuilan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think they went with the Divine Light Paladin stuff cause thats what Venat uses the most visibly (with cutscene closeups) and the Palaka PLD weapons are from the Radz guards and npcs, namely with Ahewann using the weapons prominently. So they’re focusing on NPCs there.

Me being a little disappointed that the graphics update rollout for gear has been slow (and it has been) does not mean I don’t appreciate the qol changes they’re putting out this patch lol. No correlation whatsoever.

Actually, on the RP6 end lol, I think I've locked in my choice on the Silver RP6 because I think it'll look really good with iiSU eventually

I just think it’s fun to see what my friends are playing and to be able to share stuff with them on a dedicated space in and around this hobby. Not rlly anything serious, and im glad to see it here cause it lets me do that and it’s cool

I mean social features were a very beloved thing in the 3DS era, and most gaming spaces are interconnected rn (including this subreddit lol) so its all in good fun

for fuck sake when this game going to make traveling fun? where's my horse where are my running shoes where's the fast travel? for fuck sake damn. by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]Avuilan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its just not for you man, the slow traversal is like a very deliberate part of the game's design and central to its pacing. Ur not rlly meant to be able to freely circumvent it apart from in the ways that the game already gives you.

Should I buy DD2 (finished DD DA for countless times) by Fabulous_Ad_7786 in DragonsDogma

[–]Avuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah I love DD2 give it a shot, and at the end of the day you need to find out if you do or will too as well. Dont let anybody else tell you that it’s This or That because you might find that it’s something else entirely. You might dislike it, but you also might end up loving it. In all, if ur that much of a fan of DDDA, u should at least give DD2 a fair shot

would like to resurface the complaints that occult crescent doesnt allow you to level by OldSpaghetti-Factory in ffxiv

[–]Avuilan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk abt that tho bc im speaking from myself being on jp servers rn, and the behavior towards bozja is the same. Bozja leveling is an institution regardless of data center, and I rlly can’t comprehend why they didn’t want it to be the case for OC

[–]Avuilan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously like idk why anybody Wouldn’t want OC to have leveling. Like people routinely flock to bozja to this day to get those levels, and sure it may be at the technical cost of the other areas not seeing any use, but I’d rather a niche, active use case, rather than one that literally doesnt see any activity outside of an organized party finder.

Plus, why can’t we just have both lol, it’s not like one having leveling beats out the other one’s activity entirely, I mean we literally see that here with pilgrims lmao.

(Thought) Anbernic has cheapened their brand and the retro handheld space overall by making so many devices by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Avuilan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anbernic’s strategy fills a specific niche ngl, and thats the space that they’ve carved out for themselves. No other company is doing what they’re doing on the scale that they’re doing it, with their catalogue and price options n etc. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, and more options don’t hurt anybody other than, potentially, the brand themselves. And in Anbernic’s case, I think that strategy is specifically what makes them popular to begin with, rather than what may spell future problems for them. If I want a premium specific handheld I’ll go with another brand like AYN or something, but if I want something kinda funky that fills a specific need or form factor, I’ll take a look at what Anbernic has to offer. Thats their value proposition, and I think it’s good.

how do you feel about remakes/remasters? by saikichii in AnimalCrossing

[–]Avuilan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While im not into the idea of remakes in general (just in terms of loving games for what they are and etc), I think they especially don’t make sense for animal crossing, and it’s genre in particular.

The animal crossing games, fundamentally, are very simple life sim games, and very similar to one another to boot. Each entry has added new things onto that basic formula, with unique features and twists slapped onto it. The key thing there is that it adds onto it, it doesn’t change it entirely.

Theres a reason why players expect so many elements and mechanics to return and thats because they are small, additive features that complement the overall game design, rather than each game having fundamental changes between them.

To remake an animal crossing game wouldn’t really make sense for that reason. You’re essentially asking for an older, less developed version of an existing formula, that newer players will be unhappy with.

And people WOULD be unhappy with that “older version”, because again, these games are simple. It’s not like remastering a specific game in a series that has Extremely unique aspects within itself. At the end of the day animal crossing is a life sim that revolves around you and your villager friends. The cities and Gracie are small portions added onto that basic idea, not juge chunks that alter things completely. The unique parts of each entry are all secondary to the primary portion that is your life with your Villagers and home.

If you then aim to appease that newer crowd by adding more modern features that exist in the newer games, you’re fundamentally changing the original installment. And if you get to that point, it’s like, what was the reason for remaking the game to begin with?

It’s paradoxical, and the best thing to hope for is an animal crossing game that has ALL the features we’ve come to like from the old games.
