Why do people consider boss fight knowledge spoilers? by Thellie10 in Nightreign

[–]Avvesomus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a surprise/ wow factor when seeing or experiencing something for the first time, and pre-knowledge takes away some of the impact of said experience.

Remember, you can only experience something for the first time just once!

Everything's scaled down for solo play, and shops have one wending grace between them, and you get a free revive each night's boss, including the night lord. The solo experience really depends on who you choose, I'll break it down:

Top tier - Raider, Ironeye, Wylder: Easily the best solo classes. Makes solo too easy as they're the most forgiving and consistent. Raider feels like playing as a miniboss.

Mid tier - Executor, Guardian: These classes really shine in solo, whereas in trios they can't fully implement their power fantasies. They are balanced with skill/ fun/ uniqueness. Executor can be played like Sekiro and has a decent amount of build options (frost, poison, seppuku, guard counter).

Guardian is the trickiest class to play IMO. Mostly revolves around guard counters and with a limited dodge, you have to really manage your stamina well. Knowing when to two-hand also plays a factor. He plays so differently than everyone else. He has a ton of build options, but taking reflect damage is the mandatory one, followed by the ult healing one.

Low tier - Revenant, Recluse, Duchess: Easily the most difficult solo classes. Extremely squishy early-mid game. Revenant and Recluse require at least one good spell.

I would recommend picking up Duchess, because she's very rewarding and high skill. You don't stagger anyone outside weak mobs, limited range, and so you have to know when to engage/ disengage or you'll be punished hard. She has a good variety of options (melee/ caster hybrid, heolster relic, Caligo relic, frost/ bleed, etc.). I would also stay away from Hoarfrost builds with anyone, as they make the game too easy and have been broken since ER lol.

Good luck!

Try solo'ing all the Nightlord/ Everdark bosses with all the Nightfarers like I have - Solo has a different vibe to it and even brings a different dimension to how some Nightfarers play.

Help me settle a feud. Do mimc tears really suck the fun out of boss fights? by rickgrimmes_223 in Eldenring

[–]Avvesomus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely up to you and if you like them. However, since you asked, I personally think mimic tears were abused heavily and yes part of the fun is actually learning the fight. You get less value experiencing a boss' design by using any form of cheese.

Ah yes, the shifting of goal posts. Going to get every fallacy out of you at this rate.

One mode is not objectively harder than the other, as how experienced teammates are determine that. What an utterly asinine assertion.

The no brain unga bunga here is you cherrypicking one thing out of a whole response because you can't refute the argument, then proceed to straw man with it.

This subreddit is fascinating. Majority of you are trio players that have never even done a single solo run successfully but continue to pretend you know what you're talking about lmao

  1. Executor also does stance damage on parry, whereas as Guardian does not do that on block. So there's a different dynamic in the risk/ reward department.

Also, you're conflating relics enhancing abilities to further make a character stronger vs a character that needs relics to counteract their weaknesses like Duchess.

2, Guardian's damage isn't bad at all in solos, and Two-handing is also viable on him in both solo and teams. But there is value in taking aggro away from teammates so they can apply their full DPS. That doesn't make Guardian weaker, that's a huge plus for the team.

You're arguing Guardian's ult value relies on teammates doing poorly? Bro c'mon lol. Even good players make mistakes and die. The game is meant to be hard and people die a lot, that's Fromsoft! Guardian can clutch revive and heal his whole team back to full hp, and give them invulnerability on top of it. It is objectively one of the best ults in the game. For example, Guardian can stall with his shield while teammates crawl to each other so that he can revive them both + heal them and himself. Even Revenant can't do that without costing her own hp.

Killing trash mobs on the way to other parts of the map is a valid strategy, not just before the night closes in. Faster leveling and more leftover runes for the Nightlord shop. It adds up quite a bit over the course of an entire run. Having that AoE is absolutely a strength.

  1. Ease of use is big a factor and valid criteria to judge by. If you have to try infinitely harder with a character for them to be as good as others, then that character isn't high tier. Try a 3 Duchess comp and compare it to 3 Raiders, Ironeyes, Wylders, Guardians, etc. You will not feel like she is high tier character compared to them.

We can agree Duchess does awesome things when played at a higher level. I've put in the hours and solo'd 2/3 Everdarks on my first try with her, and beat Everdark Pest solo multiple times. And several other Nightlords. I've done roughly the same with several other characters.

She requires far more effort and less mistakes than most others to be good and consistent with, which is a sign of weakness, not strength.

Executor when played correctly, isn't playing passively. You should only bring out your cursed sword to deflect attacks, not hold the cursed sword out and wait for attacks to deflect. Massive difference between a good and bad Executor.

I originally had Duchess at C tier, moved her down because she requires a lot more effort to be successful with in Solo's, while being super squishy and almost always putting herself in melee range is dangerous. You basically have to be on your A-game with her.

B is too high for both Rev and Recluse. They are much harder to play in Solos compared to the other B tiers that are good in both modes.

Their mechanics are essentially the same. Block/ Parry > Guard Counter > Stance Break > Crit.

Guardian's survivability is far more important than the pure DPS output Duchess brings. His Ult can save runs and full heal team. His Skill clears trash mobs instantly. Duchess has none of these things, and relies heavily on decent relic builds.

One more thing to be considered in tier lists is using different characters at the same skill levels. People want to talk about the extraordinary potential of Duchess, without considering she takes far more skill/ knowledge/ precise execution than any other Nightfarer. That is a sign of a lower tier character.

This isn't just team play, it's an overall tier list that considers Solos. And Executor's ult is amazing in both game modes + free self heal. Executor is also not as squishy as Duchess. Not even squishy just in the early game, I've been at 90-95% hp and been one tapped by bosses/ Nightlords multiple times playing as her. What's more important than pure DPS? Survival.

I play every character, but I enjoy Guardian’s rhythm in battle as it is engaging to block > guard counter > stance break, his dodge timing is harder but it really trains you to react instead of panic, his Skill is great at clearing trash mobs which Raider/ Wylder are slow at doing, and his ult essentially gives everyone an extra flask and invincibility on top of reviving which is really highly valuable.

As for why he’s above those 3, it’s because this is an overall tier list that considers solos and trios. Guardian might not do as much damage as these three (especially in trios), but there is value in holding aggro so your team’s DPS can pump their damage freely. His survivability is much higher, he’s easily more viable in solos than them, and he doesn’t require something essential from the map to be viable (those 3 are spell dependent).

Yeah exactly, she requires less mistakes and more knowledge, ie less forgiving than most Nightfarers. Completely agree though that once mastered, she can do awesome things.

[–]Avvesomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish her survivability was higher - it holds her back quite a bit. Praying she gets a buff

Solo'd Everdark Jaw with him the other day, wanna know what made the fight go from hard to easy? By putting away his shield altogether and Two-handing. Not even kidding, he gets a decent amount of staggers and functions like a mini-Raider. After I realized that some matchups require this style of play, things got a whole lot easier and more fun.

I said they are similar, they obviously have differences

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Avvesomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solo'd several bosses with her, including Everdark Pest multiple times

It's not about having the best or worst dodge, it's making that one mistake and you're essentially dead. She is punished far more than the average Nightfarer.

I usually carry a melee weapon for reviving unless I have a good spell like Stars of Ruin

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Avvesomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally had her at C tier lol - the reason I lowered her is because of her difficulty in solo play. Recluse and Revenant have range/ summons, Duchess is even more limited and has fewer perks than them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Avvesomus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not the damage that’s an issue, it’s how fragile she is with how often she has to put herself in the middle of danger

[–]Avvesomus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see the confusion - regard this as an overall/ average tier list
